FC Mountain intend to appeal against double relegation

FC Mountain are to appeal against the FAW’s decision to relegate them two levels.
Last season, the club then known as Flint Mountain avoided the drop from the Cymru North, but it emerged last week they had been demoted two leagues after the FAW claimed it had granted their request for ‘elective relegation’ from Tier 2.
The newly-named FC Mountain insist they made no such request, but had merely asked the governing body for advice about the potential implications of going down to Tier 3.
An FC Mountain statement said today: “FC Mountain plan to appeal the relegation from Tier 3 and the charge imposed by the FAW relating to Cymru North rule 26.2
“Our appeal will be based on at no point did we provide the FAW with a letter of resignation from Tier 2, we simply asked could the board consider swapping us into Tier 3.
“This request, we believe, was not a letter of resignation from Tier 2, we were simply seeking guidance and clarification on our position from the FAW.”
As a result of FC Mountain’s relegation, Ruthin Town, who finished bottom of Cymru North, have earned a reprieve, while Kerry and Connah’s Quay Town also avoid going down and stay in Tier 3 Ardal North East and West respectively.
FC Mountain, who it is believed have also been hit by a heavy FAW fine, are expected to compete in Tier 4 in 2026-27, pending the outcome of any appeal.
The club also announced at the weekend they are having a complete player clear-out.
All of the squad which represented Mountain in the JD Cymru North in 2025-26 have indicated they wish to leave. Some have already moved on.
The club has given the departures their blessing and intend to rebuild the squad completely next season.
The FAW have been approached for comment.
