It was another hot and humid, but most enjoyable evening for the annual Deganwy Dash run last Friday night, which was staged over a scenic 5-mile course from the promenade to the RSPB Nature Reserve and back.
Well-organised by the hard-working John Hatton and his dedicated team of volunteers, this event attracted 343 finishers and helped to raise many thousands of pounds for children’s cancer charities, and many other worthy causes.

The Llandrillo yn Rhos Parkrun proved the most popular North Wales event on a very warm Saturday morning, again attracting a host of runners and walkers from all over the UK – and even Australia – plus welcome members from the 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group for their usual end of the month gathering.
Nine of the first 12 finishing places were taken by first time entrants with Paul Jones (Shrewsbury AC) first in a CPB in 16.38, chased by newbies Conor Davies second in 16.56 and Niall Simmonds (Southampton AC) third in 17.53; and well done to Iain Burgess, who ran extremely well in 4th place, despite competing the previous night in the 5-mile Deganwy Dash.
And it was a close tussle for placings by three promising young female athletes with SW18-19 runner Elen Edwards first (26th overall) with a CPB 20.19, JW11-14 Lois Evans second in 20.37 and SW20 Llio Owen third in a CPB 20.55. There were 514 finishers at Rhos.
NWRRC only had four members involved at Rhos due to the Dash race but still claimed three age cat wins.
Cheryl Frost was 61st and 1st VW60 in 22.40; with Richard Scamans 64th in 22.50, master vet Don Hale 1st VM70 in 28.55 in 226th and super-vet Mike Hayton 274th and 1st VM75 cat in 30.34.
GOG Triathlon: 1st Paul Sanders in CPB 22.58; Steve Owen 23.19, debutant Tomas Aldous 25.48.
Several local runners travelled to the Bala Parkrun last Saturday where Gareth Southworth (Cybi Striders) clocked 21.04 and won his M60 age cat, whilst NWRRC athlete Carla Green was first female and won her F50 in 21.07. Kay Hatton was 5th female in 23.52 and 2nd F60, whilst Elizabeth Driscoll was 1st F50 in 27.02.
Visitor Sam Evans won the Conwy Parkrun in 19.41, followed by Anthony Jones in 19.53, with the third finisher’s name unknown.
Top female visitor was Anna Bale (5th overall) in 20.56, with fellow newbie Alice Anderson second in 23.08, and Susana Vicente third in 23.49. There were 202 finishers.
NWRRC entered three: Paddy Walsh 13th overall and 3rd VM35 in 21.35, with Karl Morris 33rd in 24.12, and Steve Mason posting 24.56.
Mathew Baker won the Nova Parkrun in 17.18, with Nathan Sayle second with a CPB in 18.26, followed by Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) CPB 18.31. And Gemma was also the first female finisher, whilst visitor Lois Lee took the second spot in 19.26, with Lisa Lines (Prestatyn RC) third in 21.43.
Darren Griss (122nd in 29.16) and Ceri Jones (123rd CPB 29.35) from NWRRC also took part. There were 324 finishers.
