Chirk AAA have appointed a new manager they hope will get them back on the right path after three successive relegations.
George Austin is the latest man to take charge at Holyhead Road. He joins from Salop Leisure Football League side Gobowen Celtic, where he spent four successful seasons.
Billy Nash will be Austin’s assistant manager with Tom Roberts remaining on the coaching staff.
Chirk were in the Tier 2 Cymru North as recently as 2023-24, but got relegated at the end of that season, then lost their T3 Ardal North status in 2024-25 before dropping out of the T4 North East Wales League Division 1 this term.
Mark Holmes and Ian Evans will continue to lead the successful AAAs Under 19 side and will work closely with Austin to gradually integrate the younger generation into the first team squad.
Club secretary Nigel Roberts feels the appointment of Austin will bring fresh optimism to the Chirk camp after a tough last 3 seasons.
“George’s knowledge of the local football scene is next to none and we’re looking forward to working with our new management team to hopefully stabilise our club and put us on a more positive footing,” he said.
Training commences in the second week of June with the season usually kicking off mid July.
Chirk will again be entering the Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy in 2026-27, along with the NEWFA Senior Challenge Cup, Horace Wynne Cup, League Cup, Two Counties Cup and NEWFA Trophy
