Six-Star Champions: Penwaig finish in style at Penrhiw

The league champions closed out a magnificent, double-winning campaign in breathtaking fashion, overcoming a rain and windswept Penrhiw to secure a 6-2 victory over Mynydd Llandegai.
A chaotic first half gave way to a second-half masterclass. The evening began with a touch of class as Mynydd Llandegai formed a Guard of Honour to welcome the newly-crowned champions onto the pitch.
Nefyn wasted no time showing why they wear the crown. Within two minutes, the lethal connection struck again: Steffan Toplis threaded a perfect through-ball, and Tomi Jones-Evans latched onto it to open the scoring.
Whether due to the treacherous weather or a post-title hangover, Nefyn’s usually solid defence endured a rare lapse. In the 11th minute, poor marking allowed Steven Tindall to equalise. By the 22nd minute the visitors were behind after a loose back pass left the goal exposed for Leon Buckland to tap in from close range.
Whatever was said in Nefyn’s dressing room at half time had the desired effect. The Penwaig returned for the second half transformed and needed just two minutes to level the score.
• 47th Minute: Tomi Jones-Evans nodded home a pinpoint corner from left-back Tomos Huw—marking Huw’s staggering 12th assist of the season. For Jones-Evans, it was his league-leading 28th goal of the campaign (37 in all competitions).
• 49th Minute: The turnaround was complete just 120 seconds later. Right-back Iwan Moore delivered a wicked cross into the area, and Meical Williams applied a deft, finish to reclaim the lead.
With the lead restored, Nefyn began to play like champions, producing two goals of absolute genius:
• 62nd Minute (The Audacity): Noticing the Llandegai keeper stranded after a scuffed clearance, Deio Rhys Jones took aim from the centre circle, firing a spectacular 45-yard strike beyond the scrambling goalkeeper and into the unguarded net.
• 83rd Minute (The Precision): Noa Griffith stood over a free-kick 25 yards out and delivered the goal of the night, curling a magnificent effort directly into the top left-hand corner.
Fittingly, Steffan Toplis had the final say of the season. In the 87th minute, he timed his run to beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper, and rolled the ball into the empty net to seal a 6-2 victory.
More Than Football
The match ended with a poignant moment of unity. Both Nefyn and Llandegai players came together to form a joint Guard of Honour for the departing Llandegai management duo of Huw Davies and Phil Thomas, recognizing their many years of dedicated service to grassroots football.
