Great promotion play-off in store when Porthmadog and Knighton Town meet
It should be an absolute cracker – Porthmadog v Knighton Town for a place in the JD Cymru North next season.
Both clubs have played at Tier 2 level before and are eager to get back there.
Two North Wales clubs have already earned promotion to the second tier courtesy of winning their respective league titles.
Ardal North East champions Llanuwchllyn and Ardal North West title-winners Bangor City 1876 are heading to the Cymru North.
Either Knighton or Porthmadog will be joining them in 2026-27.
The pair will clash on Tuesday 26 May at Park Avenue in Aberystwyth (KO 19:30).
The two sides have never previously met, meaning it will be a new challenge for both clubs.
Harry Stokes’ Robins side from Powys are looking for back-to-back promotions after winning the Central Wales League South title last year to gain promotion to tier three.
Knighton’s form has dipped slightly amid a congested schedule, but they remain unbeaten in their last seven matches, winning three and drawing four.
Chris Jones and his Porthmadog side have only lost to champions Bangor since the turn of the year in the Ardal North West, securing second place.
Port are aiming for a quick return to the Cymru North following their relegation in 2024. They won a play-off to reach the Cymru North back in 2021-22.
Knighton were last in Tier 2 back in 1998-99 when the league was known in the Cymru Alliance.
They resigned mid-season and their record was expunged. Prior to that, they had spent six seasons in the CAL, finishing fourth in 1997-98.
