Penwaig! Pencampwyr! Perffaith! – Nefyn United are league champions and have a treble on their radar
All hail Nefyn United – league champions for the first time since they landed the Caernarfon and District title in 1999-2000.
Twenty-six years on, the Penwaig are going for an unprecedented treble.
With the NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup safely in the trophy cabinet, Alan Jones, Steve Jones and Michael John Evans’ side clinched the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division title on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory at long-time rivals Llanberis.
And a third major prize is up for grabs on Friday, when the Cae’r Delyn club clash with Nantlle Vale in the Cwpan Snowdonia Fire Protection Cup final at Treborth.
As if that was not enough, today Nefyn United found out they had secured a Tier 3 licence for the 2026-27 season, which will enable them to be promoted to Ardal North West.
Not since the Penwaig graced the former Welsh Alliance League between 1992-93 and 1995-96, then from 2005-06 to 2013-14 – a total of 13 seasons – have they campaigned at such a high level.

In a pulsating, high-stakes encounter at Ffordd Padarn, CPD Unedig Nefyn overcame a resilient Llanberis side to officially be crowned league champions.
Nefyn signaled their intent from the first whistle. In the 15th minute, the “Deadly Duo” combined to devastating effect.
Tomi Jones-Evans turned provider, feeding Steffan Toplis, who produced a moment of sublime composure. With a neat finish from just inside the area, Toplis wrongfooted the entire Llanberis defence and keeper to give the visitors a vital lead.
Llanberis, true to their reputation, refused to roll over. The hosts levelled the scoring in the 28th minute through a Thomas Collins header from a corner.
Nefyn emerged for the second half with renewed ferocity, with three glorious chances in a 10-minute blitz that left the hosts reeling.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 73rd minute, and it was a goal worthy of winning any championship. Vice-captain Ifan Jones took aim from 25 yards, unleashing a rocket that flew into the net to spark scenes of unbridled joy on the touchline.
Llanberis threw everything forward in the closing stages, desperately chasing an equalizer. However, the Nefyn defence—the league’s gold standard—held firm. As the final whistle blew, the “Double” was confirmed.
In a display of true sportsmanship, the CPD Llanberis players and coaches formed a Guard of Honour for the trophy presentation.
It was a fitting tribute to a Nefyn side that has dominated the landscape this season. Attention now turns to Friday night’s Snowdonia Fire Protection final at Treborth 3G.
