A third straight win for Kinmel Bay on Monday night lifted them to fifth place in the table.
Penmaenmawr Phoenix Yellows and Kinmel Bay Ladies produced an entertaining evening of 6v6 football played over two 30-minute halves, both teams showing great spirit, quality and sportsmanship throughout.
Penmaenmawr started the brighter and stunned the visitors with an early breakthrough after just five minutes. A dangerous corner from Catherine Thornton caused chaos inside the Kinmel Bay box, and Alicia Edwards reacted quickest to the loose ball to fire home from close range and give Pen a deserved lead.
The goal sparked Kinmel Bay into life and they soon began to raise the tempo. Kerry Williams proved a constant threat with her pace and determination. Her first goal came after a powerful strike was parried by goalkeeper Sarah Alderson, only for Williams to react sharply and slot home the rebound.
Williams struck again shortly afterwards, once more using her speed to break through the Pen defence. Although the goalkeeper made an excellent initial save in the one-on-one situation, Williams was quickest to the loose ball and calmly swept it into the net to put Bay ahead.
Both teams continued to battle hard, and in the 24th minute Pen found themselves level again in unfortunate circumstances for Kinmel Bay. Goalkeeper Hannah Roberts initially made the save, but the ball slipped through her grasp and crossed the line for an own goal, leaving the score tied at 2-2 heading into half-time.
With five substitutes available, Kinmel Bay rotated the entire outfield side during the break to ensure equal playing time for all players, and they started the second half strongly.
Becca Skelton restored Bay’s lead after a superb pass from Steph Farley found her in space. Skelton kept her composure brilliantly before lifting the ball into the top-right corner to make it 2-3.
Just three minutes later, Pen suffered another slice of bad luck when a miscued Laura Twohig clearance looped beyond the goalkeeper and into the net for an own goal, extending Kinmel’s advantage.
Pen continued to push forward and battled until the final whistle, but Bay sealed the victory with the final goal of the evening.
Excellent link-up play between Skelton and Mamwell carved open the defence, with Mamwell calmly slotting past the keeper to complete the scoring.

• Both teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of Amy Conway-Williams, Vice Chair of the Women’s Recreation League and a friend to many.

Emily Hughes’ 39th minute goal from an Abbie Chance assist was all that separated the sides at Coleg Llandrillo.

Mochdre Lionesses 2 CPD Merched Llanrwst Unedig 2

Two Alaw Hughes goals put Llanrwst in initial command, but a Bethan Smith double earned Mochdre a point from a cracking contest.
Efa Jones and Nanw Williams provided the assists for the Conwy Valley side, Antonia Lopez and Anna Grant for the Lionesses.
