Back-to-back league wins for Kinmel Bay who edged up to sixth place in the table on Monday night.
Bay and Prestatyn Dragonhearts served up an entertaining and competitive encounter, with the home side eventually claiming a 3-1 victory in a match played over two 30-minute halves.
Both teams showed great commitment, quality and determination throughout, producing an excellent advert for women’s football.
The visitors made the perfect start and stunned the home side inside the opening minute. A lapse in concentration at the back from Bay allowed Jade Davies to pounce on a miskicked clearance before coolly firing into the back of the net to give Dragonhearts an early lead.
Kinmel Bay responded positively and quickly found their rhythm. Just seven minutes later, Kerry Williams showed great pace to burst beyond the Dragonhearts defence before slotting into the bottom corner, with the goalkeeper narrowly unable to keep it out.
With both sides pushing hard for the next breakthrough, it was Bay skipper Caitlin Blackwell who provided a moment of quality, lifting a perfectly weighted pass over the Dragonhearts back line into the path of Becca Skelton, who made no mistake in finding the net to put the hosts ahead.
Ten minutes later, Williams struck again to complete her brace, driving forward at pace before unleashing a thunderous effort that flew into the net, sending Kinmel Bay into the break with a commanding 3-1 advantage.
The second half began with both teams battling hard and looking to create chances. Dragonhearts’ dangerwoman Jade Davies again threatened as she broke through the defence and struck a powerful shot, only to be denied by an excellent save from goalkeeper Hannah Roberts.
Minutes later, Bay responded with some sharp link-up play of their own, but Dragonhearts keeper Sara Friend was equal to the effort with a fine stop.
There were no further goals, and the match ended 3-1 after an excellent display of women’s football from both sides.
