Champions crowned but CPDM Henllan end season with brave performance in game they led twice

NORTH WALES COAST WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE
CPDM Henllan 2 (L Williams 4, 38)
Llangefni Town 6 (Brown 13, 74, B Jones pen 49, F Owen 59, C Roberts 63, Coulson 72)

While this was the day the invincible Llangefni Town received the league championship trophy, Henllan can also look back with pride on a season where they achieved many good things under very tough circumstances.
The village side, in just their second season in senior football, lost last term’s 53-goal top-scorer Beth Roberts before the campaign began and struggled for player numbers throughout, yet still produced a number of positives.
Henllan – who will not be able to field a team for their final fixture – finished their season with a fine performance against undefeated champions Llangefni,.
In just the fourth minute, the home side’s Lleucu Williams burst through the midfield, poked the ball past the last defender and rounded keeper Mia Gleave before scoring with her left foot,
Llangefni equalised on 13 minutes when Amber Brown netted with a brilliant shot from outside the box,
Seven minutes before the half time break, Henllan shocked the title-winners again by edging in front for the second time.
Gwenno Williams found her sister Lleucu on the right wing and her perfect chip found the net for her 9th goal of the season.
Half time: 2-1.
On 49 minutes Llangefni were awarded a penalty with which defender Beth Jones made no mistake. Ten minutes later Ffion Owen put Cefni ahead.

Henllan tired in the last 20 minutes, further goals by Catrin Roberts, Ellie Coulson and Brown’s 24th of the season made the final score 6-2.
Henllan keeper Rhian Edwards made some fine saves but the referee gave player of the match to captain Magi Pierce who is the only one left of the original gang that started 9 years ago in the juniors.
With 3 or 4 of the girls going to colleges and other things, it is unclear if Henllan will have a team next year,
It has been a rollercoaster of a season, with such a small squad and the team has been on the edge many times, but this fantastic bunch of girls have kept going to make sure they finished the season, and to make it to semi final of a cup and finish a respectable 6th is quite an achievement.
