Three league games left and if they win them all they are certain to be crowned champions.

However, with champions Cardiff City to face at STōK Cae Ras this Sunday and a pair of meetings with Swansea City on Wednesday (away) and at home (April 5) still to come, Wrexham know there is still much work to do to achieve their greatest feat.

Nonetheless, Jenny Sugarman’s side did their chances no harm with Sunday’s 1-0 victory at The New Saints. over whom they completed a quick double.

And once more, the match-winner was ‘golden boot’ Faye Knox, who made it 16 goals in 20 matches since joining the club in October after coming on as a second-half substitute at Park Hall.

If Wrexham do finish up champions, the master stroke of signing former Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers midfielder Knox, a true Paul Scholes like figure in this team, will be cited as a major reason behind the success.

Sunday’s game was a tight encounter, Wrexham posing the first threat when Mariam Mahmood’s 20-yard strike was pushed behind for a corner by Orla Howard.

Kelsey Richardson then hit a long range free kick for Saints which Liz Craven dealt comfortably with.

Katie Barker was a constant threat for the Red Dragons

Lili Mai Jones threaded a lovely ball from midfield into Adran Premier top-scorer Katie Barker, who tried to make room for the shot but was crowded out by the home defence who also blocked Rosie Hughes’ follow-up effort. Soon after, Howard gathered bravely and decisively at the feet of Hughes.

Wrexham continued to create chances after the break, Hughes lobbing a nice pass into the path of Barker, who chipped the advancing keeper but narrowly missed the target.

Mahmood was denied by good goalkeeping before the all-important goal arrived.

Knox broke into the box from the left, leaving Kayleigh Baker and Lia Lewis standing before rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net for a fine individual goal.

In the 88th minute, Saints were reduced to 10 players when Mia Gwyn Davies deliberately tugged back sub Evie Sadler as she broke forward and was shown a second yellow by referee Elwyn Parry, having earlier been cautioned for clattering Barker from behind.

And TNS finished with nine on the pitch after sub Yasmin Evans ‘took out’ Maria Francis-Jones as Wrexham attempted a counter attack and was shown a second yellow.
