MATCH OF THE DAY: Conwy Borough Swifts rock the leaders with upset win

NORTH WALES COAST EAST PREMIER DIVISION – MARCH 7, 2026

CPD Llansannan 0 Conwy Borough Swifts 3 (Maddock 21, C Williams 27, S Jones 40)

Report: SHAUN BEST

Clinical Conwy upset league leaders CPD Llansannan to throw themselves back into the North Wales Coast East Premier promotion race.

Three first half goals at the Llan Siro did the damage to keep the Swifts in fourth place. Llansannan stay top for now, but have the chasing pack hot on their heels.

Conwy showed their attacking intent early on when Isaac Carey lofted over from a promising position. At the other end, the Swifts had young goalkeeper Felix Domagala to thank when he somehow turned Luke Molmans’ effort over the bar from his position on the floor.

Borough’s Cieran Williams was put clear, but a poor touch saw him stagger and lose his balance in the box just as he collided with home goalkeeper Tom Kelly. The referee correctly waved play on.

Midway through the first half, the visitors did take the lead. Carey’s corner found Samuel Jones, whose effort struck the post, before fellow defender Samuel Maddock swept in the rebound underneath Kelly.

Conwy quickly doubled their advantage. Ollie Clarke scampered down the right hand side and his cross found the head of Williams, who made no mistake from close range.

A third goal soon followed. Fortune was once again found on the right flank when Samuel Jones ran onto a loose ball and drilled a first time shot into the top corner, beating Kelly at his near post.

The hosts tried to find a way back into the game in the second half. However, Elis Davies took too long to shoot in the box and saw an effort deflect wide, before Gethin Rogers ghosted into the box to send a header the wrong side of the post.

Conwy nearly added a fourth to their tally. Williams rounded Kelly, only to run wide before he could pull the trigger. To his credit, Williams unselfishly squared for Rhys Brook, but Kelly was back on his line and easily gathered the substitute’s effort.

Carey won a 50-50 tackle with the ricochet fortuitously bouncing kindly for Williams. The frontman extended a leg to attempt a lob, but Kelly was equal to the effort.

Conwy were forced to play the closing stages with ten men after Frank Montgomery limped off with an ankle injury. Llan substitute Ifan Evans saw one final speculative cross strike the outside of the post, before the final whistle blew and the three points went back to Y Morfa. This result was revenge for a Morfa side which lost 3-1 at home to Llansannan last month.
