The difference between Tier 1 and Tier 3 of the Cymru football pyramid was clear as Flint’s superior finishing saw them into their first Welsh Cup final in 72 years.
Much was spoken in the build-up about the potential of Bangor City 1876 becoming the first-ever tier 3 team to make the final of Wales’ premier knockout, but on the day Lee Fowler’s Silkmen killed the romance in ruthless fashion at the Go Goodwins Stadium, Llandudno..
By half time, the tie was all but over as the Cymru Premier favourites rattled up a 3-0 lead.
In a lower key second half, the black and whites extended their lead to five before the Citizens bagged a deserved consolation.
To their credit, 1876 worked hard and played well as a team, but the quality of Flint’s midfield and their red-hot strike force proved too much for the underdogs.
Flint will now meet either Caernarfon Town or CPD Y Rhyl 1879 – who play the other semi tomorrow – in the final.
As for Bangor, they still have three big competitions to go for – the Ardal North West league title, FAW Trophy and league cup – and they are a great bet to win all three.
