Goalkeeper who is not a goalkeeper earns place in national leagues Team of the Week!

Anna Jones is in the Adran Leagues Team of the Week – as a goalkeeper!

When an outfield player deputises in goal and their performance is so good they make a national league Team of the Week that’s quite an achievement!

That’s what happened for Anna Jones of CPDM Y Felinheli last Sunday when she operated as an emergency stopper in her team’s 6-0 win over CPDM Bangor.

Jones, normally a combative midfielder who joined Felin last summer after several years of playing in the English pyramid, took the gloves after her team lost the services of regular keeper Catrin Beech to Tranmere Rovers recently.

And Anna had a great game against Bangor, producing some fine saves to prevent the visitors from scoring.

That earned her a place in the Genero Adran Leagues Tim yr Wythnos/Team of the Week.

Llywela Edwards

There was a double celebration for Felinheli as their dynamic winger Llywela Edwards was also selected for the all-star team following her two long-range goals against the Citizens.

Set-piece specialist Edwards is current top-scorer for Felin on eight goals.

Other North Wales players to make Team of the Week were Flint Town United defender Shona Roberts and Katie Barker of Wrexham.

Unsung hero Roberts rarely fails to put in a great performance and she was outstanding in Flint’s 2-0 win over Berriew. Shona is a former Adran North title winner with Llandudno.

Barker has been sensational since joining Wrexham in the summer. The young striker has notched 21 goals in as many games for the Red Dragons, who have already won the Genero Adran Trophy, reached the Welsh Cup semis and lie second behind Cardiff City in the Adran Premier.

Barker, Newcastle United’s all-time record scorer, netted twice in last weekend’s win over Cardiff which put Wrexham to within a point of the Bluebirds with a game in hand.
