NORTH WALES COAST WEST LEAGUE – FEBRUARY 21

PREMIER DIVISION

Gwalchmai 0 CPD Nefyn United 3

Six straight league wins for Nefyn without conceding a single goal.

The Penwaig overcame both a resilient Gwalchmai side and increasingly treacherous conditions to secure a commanding 3-0 victory, headlined by a Tomi Evans brace and a defensive masterclass.

Despite torrential rain and swirling winds, Nefyn found their spark in the 29th minute.

Rhys Williams was the architect, turning his marker inside-out before unleashing a drive that Kenny Hughes could only parry into the path of Tomi Evans, who slid home the opener.

The contest turned physical shortly after, with Deio Jones fortunate to escape serious injury following a reckless challenge that many felt warranted a dismissal. Nefyn held their nerve, entering the break with a deserved 1-0 lead.

The visitors wasted no time asserting dominance in the second half:

In the 55th minute, captain Llyr Pennant Williams doubled the lead after a corner from Tomos Huw – furthering the left-back’s reputation as a premier provider.

After 62 minutes, the points were wrapped up when Steffan Toplis turned assistant for Evans, who clinically dispatched his second of the afternoon.

The headline story remains Nefyn’s backline – the visitors secured their sixth consecutive league clean sheet.

While Kenny Hughes performed admirably in the Gwalchmai goal to keep the scoreline respectable, Nefyn’s structural superiority was never in doubt.

Nantlle Vale 1 Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 0

Second-place Nantlle Vale made it nine league games unbeaten with a 56th minute goal from sub Llion Griffiths enough to secure three points.

Vale now trail leaders Menai Bridge Tigers by five points but have three games in hand.

Cemaes Bay 3 Llanrug United 2

Iolo Hughes’ second goal of the night on 86 minutes also proved to be the winner for Cemaes Bay on Friday.

Hughes broke the deadlock on 28 minutes, Shay Murphy with the assist, but Josh Evans levelled after 36, set up by Sion Prysor Williams, who made it 2-1 to Llanrug close to half time.

Ten minutes into the second half Murphy equalised for Bay, but two minutes later the same player missed a penalty.

It could have gone either way before Hughes struck that late decider, Lennon Owen with his second assist of the evening.

Menai Bridge Tigers 3 CPD Boded 3

Leaders Tigers fought back from 3-1 down to force a draw against island rivals Boded.

Jordan Taylor netted first for the visitors on 18 minutes, Asa Thomas with the assist, but Jamie McDaid’s 25th goal of the season made it one-apiece on the half-hour.

However, Chris Jones restored the away lead on 35 and when Taylor bagged his second early in the second half, things looked promising for the green and white army.

Menai’s hopes were raised through a Tomos Williams own goal on 78 and then John Littlemore grabbed the equaliser five minutes from time, McDaid assisting.

Five minutes into added time, Tigers keeper Caron Hughes was sent off for a second yellow.

DIVISION ONE

Bethesda Rovers 1 Llangoed and District 4

Llangoed strengthened their grip on second spot with an emphatic win at Treborth.

Marquis Holland nudged the away side in front on 15 minutes and Rob Henderson soon added a second.

Morgan Jones hit back on 25, Kian Hughes the chance provider.

Llangoed manager Vinny Walker was ordered from the dugout on 37 for a second yellow, but in no time the Puffins were 3-1 up through Carwyn Williams.

In the 64th minute, Rovers player Morgan Jones was dismissed for two yellow cards and the home misery was added to on 71 when Harvey Jones found the net.

Rovers were reduced to nine men when Dafydd Glyn Williams saw yellow for a second time.

Llanfairpwll A CPD Gaerwen A

This match was abandoned due to the pitch become unplayablewhen Gaerwen were 2-1 up.
