Caerwys joined Acton and Cefn Druids in the Two Counties Cup semi-finals by well and truly extinguishing the Dragons’ fire at Lon-yr-Ysgol.

Although the visitors drew level at 1-1 early in the first half, the home side commanded the rest of the tie.

Karl Bacon edged Caerwys in front after 11 minutes, but captain Lewis Theaker equalised for Deeside on 18.

That was as good as it got for the Dragons.

Before half time, Caerwys were 6-1 up, Leon Bowen (2), Chris Hoey, Keion Davies and David Booth sharing the glut of goals.

In the second period, Bacon added two more to make it a hat-trick and 20 goals in total for the season.

Subs Kyle De-Lloyd and Aled Reece also found the net, skipper Shaun Thomson ending the rout with goal number 11 on 83 minutes.

Hats off to Sam Tones for an excellent display in goal for Deeside despite the broadside thrown his way.

It is now seven games without defeat for Caerwys, who clinched promotion from Division 3 last weekend with games to spare.

Assists on Saturday came from: Harvey Birch (3), Bacon (2), Aled Reece, James Reece, Jack Wakeman, Daniel Ventre, Booth and Stephen Hughes.

It was a complete team performance — sharp in attack, solid at the back, and backed by brilliant support as always.
