Huge upset! Bangor City 1876’s season-long unbeaten run is over!

After 32 matches without defeat CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876’s long unbeaten run is over.

In a huge upset, the Citizens were beaten 3-2 this afternoon away to CPD Llannefydd in the Ardal North West League.

Llan were already one of only two sides to take a point off the leaders this season, drawing 2-2 at Bangor City Stadium back in August.

Now they have succeeded where so many others have failed in 2025-26 – recording a victory over the mighty 1876.

Tom Jones gave Llannefydd the lead on 15 minutes, and although Cai Owen levelled on 45, David Lawson-Cooke restored the home advantage in added time.

When Lawson-Cooke made it 3-1 on 59 minutes from a Sam Jones assist, the chances of a shock result began to look like a genuine prospect.

However, City had already staged some superb comebacks this season and are renowned for their late goals. Not this time.

Josh Carey did pull one back on 80 minutes, James Barry the chance supplier, but that was the end of the scoring.

Bangor are still three points clear at the Ardal North West summit having now played the same number of games as second-place Porthmadog.

Michael Johnston’s side remain in contention for a quadruple, having qualified for the Welsh Cup semi-finals, plus the last eight of the FAW Amateur Trophy and Ardal North League Cup.
