Last season no wins in 32 matches, this campaign unbeaten since day one – what a turnaround at CPD Aberffraw!

Has there ever been in North Wales football a turnaround in fortunes so dramatic as what has occurred at CPD Aberffraw this season and last?

Last season the Ynys Môn side finished bottom of the North Wales Coast West Premier Division with 0 wins in 30 matches, three draws and 27 defeats, scoring just 17 goals and conceding 131. They also lost both cup ties they played.

Relegation to Tier 5 was the result, but a summer rebuild at Cae Cynlas has completely changed the picture.

The 2025-26 season has seen Berffro go unbeaten in 13 North Wales Coast West Division One matches, 12 wins and a draw giving them an 11-point lead at the summit.

The islanders are also into the NWCFA Junior Cup semi-finals, where they visit Mountain Rangers on February 14, and remain in the Cwpan Menai Tractors. Treble chance.

Aberffraw are one of just three senior clubs in North Wales undefeated in all competitions this season – the other two being CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 and Holyhead Hotspur Development.

In league and cup, Berffro are unbeaten in 15 games, 14 wins and a draw.

Why the drastic change?

Well, a number of quality signings has plenty to do with it, the likes of experienced names Andy Clarke, Connor Gordon, Dion Evans, Steve Jones and Arwel Williams proving pricesless since joining last July.

Well-travelled striker Clarke, who has netted more than 350 goals in his career, is flying at Cae Cynlas this season with 20 goals in 15 matches, making him Division One top scorer by some distance.

Consistent hitman Dylan Williams, midfield ace Gordon and dominant central-defender Evans have also stood out for the Anglesey side during 2025-26.

Managers Lee Jones and John Webster must be thoroughly proud of the team’s achievements and will want to guide Berffro to some well-deserved silverware.

In the past, Aberffraw have lifted the Dargie Cup five times, the Megan Cup on three occasions and the Elias Cup twice, but have not topped a table at the end of a season since being crowned Anglesey League champions in 1963-64.

They have never won the NWCFA Junior Cup although they were beaten finalists in 2013-14. As for the NWCFA Intermediate Cup, they finished runners-up in 1973-74.

So the current season is shaping into something very special for CPD Aberffraw.

It would be a fantastic achievement not just to win trophies, but also to celebrate the mother of all turnarounds.

And no-one would be happier to see glory days at Cae Cynlas than charismatic figurehead Douggie Fowlie (above), whose input into not just the club, but Ynys Môn football as a whole has been immense.
