Trearddur Bay FC reveal reasons behind back-to-back match postponements

Trearddur Bay Football Club have revealed why their two home matches this week were postponed.

Tuesday’s Ardal North West League game against Llanrwst United was called off as is this Friday’s meeting with St Asaph City.

Speculation has been rife over the future of the Ynys Môn club following last weekend’s contoversial 3-2 defeat at Porthmadog.

Following an alleged assault on Port winger Danny Brookwell, a 35-year-old man was arrested and conditionally bailed by North Wales Police pending further enquiries.

Bay confirmed on Sunday that player Tom Taylor had been released by the club.

This week long-serving Chris Davies stepped down as club secretary, although he insisted his decision had nothing to do with Saturday’s incident.

There have also been rumours circulating of key officials resigning following a torrent of abuse on social media relating to happenings at Porthmadog.

Today, Trearddur Bay released the following statement:

“We would like to provide a brief update to address the recent speculation surrounding the club and the postponement of our recent fixtures.
As you can imagine, the past few days have been extremely challenging for Trearddur Bay Football Club. A number of committee members have been subjected to unacceptable levels of abuse, including threats to personal safety. Such incidents have been reported to relevant authorities.
Whilst we awaited guidance from the FAW, a mutual decision was taken, in the best interests of both Trearddur Bay FC and Llanrwst United, to postpone our scheduled league fixture on Tuesday.
In addition, our home ground for the season in Bangor was undergoing essential pitch maintenance, which meant the venue was unavailable for our planned fixture on Friday. We explored the option of moving the match to a Saturday evening kick-off; at an alternative venue, however, it was not possible to agree on a suitable time for both clubs, and a mutual decision was therefore made to rearrange the fixture.
Our focus now turns to our upcoming Welsh Cup Quarter Final tie against Flint Town United next week.
