FARCE: ‘We’ve won!’, ‘No you haven’t you were told the wrong rules so you have to play again!’

After winning their North Wales Coast Women’s League Cup match against NFA last weekend, Llangefni Town have been told they must play the game all over again – because the referee transmitted the wrong rules.

Cefni beat NFA 2-1 in extra time on Sunday at Cae Bob Parry. However, it has since emerged that playing the added half-hour was not in the rules and the match, which stood 1-1 at 90 minutes, should have gone straight to penalties.

As a result, the teams have to do it all again at Llangefni this Sunday.

Town manager Dan Gregg said he was told by the referee before the match that extra time or penalties would determine the winner, if the sides were level at full-time.

However, the two clubs were informed this week that the game must be played again due to the mix-up in communications.

This is not a new occurrence where the North Wales Coast FA is concerned.

Only last season, Amlwch Town’s North Wales Coast Women’s Challenge Cup quarter-final tie against CPD Y Rhyl 1879 was ordered to be replayed due to a mix-up over competition rules.

The original tie at Lon Bach finished 2-2 and was taken straight to penalties, with Amlwch winning a shootout 4-2.

However, competition rules stated a half-hour of extra time must be played if a game is level at the end of 90 minutes.

Rhyl 1879 put in a protest to the North Wales Coast FA which was upheld.

Apparently, the match official was unaware of the rule relating to extra time in this competition when a game is all-square after 90.

The official told a NWCFA committee that due to poor light, there is no way an extra 30 minutes could have been played anyway, but thought in this case the match would go straight to penalties.

As it happened, the replay never took place and Amlwch advanced to the semi-finals.
