JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORTS AND TABLE JANUARY 10

Gresford Athletic 3 Penrhyncoch 2

Mitchell Williams delivered a stunner for Gresford

Sam Bryan has already been showing his capabilities in front of goal for Gresford Athletic’s Development side this season, having netted 18 times in 13 appearances in FAW Reserve League North.
And on Saturday, the 18-year-old delivered Gresford’s first team a taste of what’s surely to come when he bagged a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Penrhyncoch having come on as a 60th minute substitute.
Bryan’s sublime finish sealed a crucial success which lifted the Colliers out of the Cymru North bottom three.
Much-improved bottom side Penrhyncoch took the lead in first half injury time at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium through Dion Phillips, Daniel Owen with the assist.
Dave Evans’ home team knew they had work to do in the second half and came out firing.

Gresford manager Dave Evans

In the 53rd minute Tom Smith made it 1-1, then on the hour an absolutely stunning left-foot strike from 25 yards by Mitchell Williams put Athletic in front.
Penrhyncoch were not for lying down and levelled the scores on 83 minutes when Owen, nominated for Cymru North Player of the Month for December, scored via a Harri Horwood assist.
However, the last word was to go to Gresford and Bryan – a day to remember for the teenage talent!

Holyhead Hotspur 0 Airbus UK Broughton 2

George Peers struck twice to reach 19 goals in all competitions this season for an Airbus side which edged into second spot in Cymru North
Also second top-scorer in the tier 2 league with 16, Peers buried Hotspur by finding the net after 38 and 59 minutes at the New Stadium.
Hotspur made a promising start, but the Wingmakers soon settled and Kaiden Cooke was unlucky to see his screamer strike the post, the ball running along the goal-line but not over it.
The deadlock was broken seven minutes before the break when Airbus worked the ball well from a throw-in, a shot was blocked and Peers pounced to fire home firmly.
Just before the hour it was 2-0, the outstanding Jordan Evans delivering a fine through ball for Peers to run onto and finish.
Danny Warren was unable to make the most of two late chances, but that did not affect the outcome of the game.

Ruthin Town 3 Holywell Town 3

Ten-man Holywell fought hard to claim a point against a Ruthin outfit which continues to improve under manager Colin Caton.
The Wellmen took a 10th minute lead when Jamie Breese drilled in a cross and Jake Cooke fired into the bottom corner.
Ruthin levelled just two minutes later when Tom Dyer marked his return to the club during the week with a goal.
In the 22nd minute Joel Giblin nudged the hosts in front, curling a lovely effort into the top corner.
Things got worse for Johnny Haseldin’s men in the 27th minute when Ieuan Hewitt brought down Llyr Morris in the box and the Holywell player saw red.
Giblin stepped up to take the penalty, but John Danby ensured there was not a double punishment for the visitors by making a great save.
League top-marksman Breese made it two-apiece on 38 with his 21st goal of the season in all competitions, but Morris restored the home lead two minutes before the interval.
Five minutes into the second half, ex-Ruthin player Joe Sullivan put Holywell back on terms with a fierce shot which went in off the crossbar.
It was anyone’s game now, although Ruthin still had the advantage of the extra man.
Breese almost won it when he thundered one against the crossbar and Jack Sconce was denied by a Dan Goldston save, the keeper grabbing the midfielder’s tricky shot at the second attempt.
