Two all-Ardal North West ties in FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals

Penmaenmawr Phoenix (yellow and blue) in action here against Y Felinheli, are home to Llannefydd in the FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals

Two all-Ardal North West ties caught the eye in the quarter-final draw for the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy.

CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 have landed a home clash with former Trophy winners Llangefni Town, while Penmaenmawr Phoenix will welcome CPD Llannefydd to Cae Sling.

The other Ardal North West club still in the competition, Prestatyn Town, will be away to Pontardawe Town.

The last eight is completed by an all-South Wales tussle between Bridgend Street and Porthcawl Town Athletic. This means the only two Tier 4 clubs remaining in the competition – both in the South Wales Premier League – are paired together.

At least two North Wales sides will feature in the semi-finals of the national knockout.

Bangor City 1876 are unbeaten in 26 matches this season, are also into the quarters of the JD Welsh Cup and remain in the Ardal Northern League Cup. Michael Johnston’s side also top the Ardal North West table.

Llangefni, the only Ynys Môn side ever to win the Trophy back in 1991-92 when it was known as the Welsh Intermediate Cup, are currently fourth in Ardal NW and certainly one of the toughest available opponents for the Citizens.

Both Penmaenmawr and Llannefydd are bottom-half teams in Ardal NW, but have been in fine form in the Trophy. Llannefydd knocked out holders Port Talbot Town in the last round.

Prestatyn’s new manager Aden Shannon will be excited at the prospect of a visit to South Wales to take on Pontardawe, presently fifth in Ardal South West.

All ties will be played on the weekend of February 20-22
