Prestatyn made it tough for the leaders at Bastion Gardens but two goals in the final 20 minutes eventually saw unbeaten Bangor City 1876 to a 12th win in 14 league starts.
With manager Gareth Thomas having stepped down earlier in the week, Town were led for one game by backroom team stalwart Josh Tambs before new boss Aden Shannon takes the helm for next weekend’s trip to Connah’s Quay Town.
Fifth-place Prestatyn gave it everything from the first whistle, a physical first half ending 0-0 with few clear chances created. City captain Tomos Clarke headed against the bar from close range.
The visitors thought they had a penalty when Tommy Creamer went down in the box on 40 minutes, but referee Johnathan Paul Griffiths waved play on.
Just before the break, a long goal-kick presented Prestatyn with an opportunity but visiting stopper Carl Jones pulled off a vital save.
Bangor’s best chance to that point came on 62 minutes when top-scorer Corrig McGonigle was denied by an Adam Reid stop.
The deadlock was finally broken on 71 minutes when a gift of a goal saw a weak header back towards the keeper fail to find its target and Dylan Summers-Jones pounced to find the net.
And the points were sealed in added time when Jamie Reed showed typical coolness to convert from the penalty spot following a foul on Summers-Jones on the edge of the box.
