Skipper Harry Owen headed Flint’s 92nd minute winner in a game the Silkmen should have had wrapped up long before the end.

Lee Fowler’s side began 2026 as they did 2025 – with a victory – and this latest priceless success lifts them out of the bottom two.

Taking on an in-form Colwyn Bay outfit, the visitors created a host of chances in the match and were also very unlucky to concede a controversial equaliser to the Seagulls.

In a goalless first half Flint dominated, Darren Stephenson somehow blasted over from point blank range after Jake Phillips laid it on a plate.

The visitors were unfortunate not to grab the lead when Jake Canavan’s fine pass released Josh Jones, whose low 18-yard drive came back off the post.

Bay’s Jordan Davies delivered a warning at the other end when his strike on the turn flew over the crossbar.

Great play from the travellers saw Burke and Stephenson ink-up before Canavan’s fierce shot was palmed up into the air by keeper Alex Brown and the danger was averted.

Just before the break a poor kick out by Brown found Sidi Fofana, whose shot towards an open goal was blocked by a defender, the ball broke to Jones and he lashed just wide from 20 yards.

Half-time: 0-0

Flint continued to waste gilt-edged chances after the break, Canavan blasting over from a great position after Phillips set him up from the right byline.

Finally, on 51 minutes, the Silkmen made the breakthrough.

Fofana headed the ball forward, releasing Jones, who slotted the ball between the legs of advancing keeper Brown for 1-0.

Bay nearly equalised soon after, a Jamie Cumming header coming back off the bar during a goalmouth scramble – by far the home side’s best chance to that point.

Lewis Sirrell volleyed straight at keeper Jack Flint, but the Seagulls were now pecking at the door and the equaliser was imminent.

On 77 minutes, there appeared to be a blatant push by Davies on Flint’s Jack Thorn in the area, but play was allowed to continue and George Hughes drilled home a lovely finish into the bottom-right corner.

Undeterred, Flint pushed for a second and a firm hit from Jones was well held by Brown.

Then, in the 92nd minute, justice for the visitors.

A corner from the right was met by a near post Owen header, and the ball had crossed the line before keeper Brown clawed it out. TV replays showed it was a goal – no question.

There was still time for sub Ellliott Reeves to miss two golden chances deep into injury time for a fired-up Flint.
