‘Squeez’ is new manager of Glantraeth side aiming to return to football in 2026-27
Glantraeth FC hope to return to North Wales football next season – and they have already appointed a new manager.
Graham ‘Squeez’ Jones will lead the Bodorgan-based club, provided their application to rejoin the North Wales Coast West League in 2026-27 is accepted.
Glantraeth withdrew from the league in September after a very difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign.
At the time of their resignation, they were bottom of the Tier 4 Premier Division having lost their opening match 21-1.
However, the club insisted it would regroup and aim to return to football next season.
Originally formed in 1984, Glantraeth has a mixed history, ranging from the high of being crowned Cymru Alliance League champions in 2005-06 to temporarily folding in 2009-10 and 2017-18 due to player shortages and, in the latter season, difficulties in meeting promotion requirements.
New chief Jones is a highly experienced campaigner in North Wales football, having most recently been manager of CPD Cefni.
A Glantraeth statement said: “Graham brings a wealth of experience from playing and coaching from junior to senior football.
“All the committee welcome Squeez to the club and can’t wait to get back to seeing football being played at Trefdraeth again.”
About a year ago, Graham Squeez featured in a special article on Grassroots North Wales.
He and his brother Hugh Alan Jones, plus their sons Ashley, Dion, Aaron and Kyle, all played in the same CPD Cefni team against St Asaph City in the Welsh Cup.
Graham’s nephew Dion is now flying as top-scorer for Llangefni Town in the Tier 3 Ardal North West League.
