JD WELSH CUP ROUND THREE

Caernarfon Town 4 (Smith 15, Lock 21, 57, 90)
Penrhyncoch 0

Josh Lock’s first hat-trick for Caernarfon Town was the chief feature of a comfortable Welsh Cup success for the Cymru Premier side.

The Canaries took a 15th minute lead when a Matty Owen corner from the right was headed home in bullet-like fashion by the high-rising Dominic Smith.

Adam Davies shot wide from a good position on the turn before the favourites doubled their lead on 21 minutes.

Lock drilled low into the left-hand corner after receiving the ball back from Davies, who showed some exquisite skill before setting up the scorer.

Some heroic defending from Cymru North bottom side Penrhyncoch denied the Cofis a third.

Davies’ shot was blocked before his resultant pass was met by an acrobatic effort from Morgan Owen which keeper Leigh Jenkins got a hand to and the clearance was completed off the line.

Brilliant play from Owen on the right led to a chance for Osian Ellis who blasted high and wide.

Jenkins got down well to deny Connor Evans soon after the restart, but on 57 minutes the hosts went three-up.

Lock swapped passes with sub Iwan Lewis before smashing a low strike past Jenkins.

Davies looked certain to score when he lobbed the outrushing Jenkins, but the ball somehow missed the target.

Although he had a fine game up front, it was not quite Davies’ day in the scoring stakes.

In the 90th minute, his close range attempt was pushed onto the post by Jenkins. From the rebound, Davies chalked up his second assist of the afternoon, Lock forcing the ball home for a well-deserved treble.
