Former Prestatyn Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads manager Neil Gibson celebrated his first win as Altrincham boss tonight.

The Robins beat Boston United 1-0 at the J Davidson Stadium, Moss Lane, to edge themselves four points clear of the Enterprise National League relegation zone.

Elliot Osborne’s 36th minute penalty was enough to bank three points for the Greater Manchester side, who were without a win in eight league games.

Gibson took over as interim manager, wlth long-time assistant Lee Jones also on board, on October 23.

The former Wales Under-21 midfielder’s first game in charge delivered a 0-0 draw at Braintree Town, but Saturday brought a disappointing 2-1 FA Cup exit at lower level Slough Town, who have bagged a home meeting with Macclesfield in the second round.

Nonetheless, league results and survival in Tier 5 are the priority and under Gibson, Altrincham have taken four points out of a possible six so far.

Gibson formerly managed Nomads and Prestatyn, winning the Welsh Cup with both clubs.

He was also the first man to lead Prestatyn into the Welsh Premier League, where they spent a total of eight seasons.

Last season, he took over at National League club Wealdstone and worked wonders to save the club from relegation.
