Plenty of goals and drama made up for a lack of games in the North East Wales Football League on Saturday.
The NEWFA RESERVE CUP provided endless excitement.
Coedpoeth United and FC Queen’s Park’s collective second strings reminded the paying public on numerous occasions why you should never leave a game early.
In the 86th minute, the Park led 2-0, yet four more goals were scored in the remaining time to force a penalty shootout which Coedy eventually won.
Goal scorers Stephen Rees and Billie Ellis both failed to score from the spot for their respective sides. Harry Gregory missed Park’s fifth spot-kick and Geraint Jones held his nerve to net the winner for the visitors.
Saltney Reserves made the most of stoppage time in both halves to bag three of their four goals in a 4-2 victory over Holywell United Reserves.
Kian Davies pocketed his third hat-trick in only four Reserve games for Brickfield in their 5-2 success at Connah’s Quay Town. He certainly knows where the goal is!
In DIVISION 1, Callum Webber recorded his first goal in a Broughton United shirt. Jayden Evans replaced Webber and staked his claim for a starting spot by scoring an important winner, as it sent the newcomers top of the pile with a 2-1 success over FC Queen’s Park.
Rhydymwyn remain bottom, but are off the mark after securing their first league victory of the season with a superb 2-1 win at previous table-toppers Coedpoeth United.
Comeback of the day was at the Gladstone Playing Fields, as Hawarden dug in to level 3-3 from 3-0 down against Saltney.
CPD Sychdyn United maintained their 100% start in DIVISION 2 with a fifth league victory. Joe Mitchell will have claimed the match ball from team-mate Joe Robins, thanks to his four goal haul. Aston Park Rangers remain hot on Sychdyn’s tail.
Overton’s Harry Massey stays at the top of the Division 2 top scorers after netting his ninth league goal of the season in a 3-2 loss at APR.
DIVISION 3 postman Ryan Carrington delivered again for pacesetters CPD Caerwys. The frontman stamped his class at the double at Skippy to preserve his side’s 100% domestic start. Deeside Dragons lost ground on the leaders with defeat at Johnstown.
