Fond farewells to incredibly talented Flint Town United pair

Two very special Flint Town United players said their fond farewells to the club on Sunday.

Rosie Hughes, regarded by many as the women’s team’s best-ever player, is off to study in the USA in July, while Beth Roberts, a magnificent performer in her debut season at the Essity Stadium, will leave the North Wales area to embark on university life.

It was an emotional occasion on Sunday when the pair played their final games – for the time being at least – in Silkwomen colours as Flint defeated Llanfair United 2-1 to clinch joint-second place in only their second season in Adran North, although goal difference dictates they end up third.

Rosie, 20, has been a Flint player from the very start, when they introduced a senior team at the beginning of the 2022-23 season.

She holds the record for the most team appearances (72) and the highest number of goals (44).

An attacking midfielder with a penchant for using her pace and skills to take on defenders, she has also made 43 assists in the past four seasons, making it 87 goal involvements in total.

Rosie won the North East Wales League East Division title with the Flint invincibles of 2023-24 and also netted in the overall East v West play-off, which Pwllheli won 3-2 in extra time.

The player vastly enjoyed the opportunity to play South Wales giants Cardiff City and Barry Town United in the Welsh Cup and Adran Trophy this and last season.

This summer Rosie flies out to Iowa as a Go 2 College Soccer student where she will represent Hawkeye College in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II.

Always playing with a smile on her face and displaying unmatched enthusiasm, this guaranteed all-time Flint Town United legend will be missed.

Her sisters. Daisy and Chloe, will continue to play for Flint, where her dad Steve and mum Debbie are also extensively involved.

BETH ROBERTS

Beth, 17, first made major headlines in North Wales last season when she bagged an amazing 53 goals in just 19 appearances for newly-formed senior side CPDM Henllan in the North East Wales East Division.

Keen to test herself in Tier 2, Beth joined Flint at the start of 2025-26 and has been a massive hit with the team and its supporters.

Not just an out-and-out goalscorer, she has adjusted her game to become more of an all-round forward to great effect.

She has scored five goals in 18 matches covering all competitions, the best undoubtedly her unforgettable effort in a 4-0 win versus CPDM Bangor at the Essity last November.

Being guided away from goal, Beth suddenly turned on a sixpence, left two defenders standing and whipped a stunning shot into the top corner in the closing moments of the game which brought the house down.

A very quiet and humble person off the field and quite slight in stature, Beth is nonetheless very strong in the tackle and hard to knock off the ball.

It will be interesting to see where she ends up playing her football next.

It is absolutely not beyond her capabilities to play Adran Premier or higher in the future.
