Celebrating a great all-round striker battling to make a comeback
Six months after suffering a complex injury, the comeback trail has not been kind to popular striker Dean Redmond.
The 37-year-old frontman has been out of action since getting badly hurt playing for Bethesda Athletic at Gwalchmai back in April, a game that was abandoned late on due to the incident.
Dean, affectionately nicknamed Curly, admits the past few months have been difficult and has paid tribute to family and friends for supporting him.
Hopefully, a return to the field will happen, but in the meantime let’s pay tribute to this outstanding forward.
In a career which has never been short of goals, Curly has played for Beaumaris Town, Bethesda Athletic, Bodedern Athletic and Menai Bridge Tigers.
He made his senior debut for Beaumaris as a left-back and was named man of the match!
His best season was 2018-19 when he scored 39 times for Menai Bridge and finished third in the Bob Brodie Trophy competition, which crowns the top goal-getter on Anglesey.
That season saw Tigers land the Gwynedd League title and Cwpan Gwynedd double.
In 2019-20, Curly signed for Welsh Alliance League Division One side Bodedern Athletic and scored a superb 17 goals. He would surely have got a few more had the season not ended prematurely in March 2020 due to Covid.
Curly returned to Menai Bridge Tigers in 2021-22, scoring twice in his first game – a 5-2 victory at Gwalchmai.
He went on to bag 18 goals before switching to Bethesda Athletic for the final five matches of the season, netting three times.
The striker stayed at Pesda in 2022-23 – their title-winning season in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West League Premier Division.
Curly was back with Menai Bridge Tigers in 2023-24, scoring 11 goals, and remained with the Anglesey club at the start of the following season before landing back at Bethesda in November 2024.
Also a boxer and darts player, Curly loves his sport but is most renowned for his football achievements.
A brilliant target man, a team player and hard-worker with a fine ability to hold the ball up and of course find the net!
