Rhyl 1879 will not compete in this season’s Bute Energy Welsh Cup – despite the FAW including them in the QR2 draw

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 will NOT compete in this season’s Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup despite being included in last night’s second qualifying round draw.
Rhyl withdrew from the Adran North league at the end of August due to a player shortage.
However, the Lilywhites were a surprise inclusion in Thursday’s Welsh Cup draw published on the FAW website.
Under FAW rules, the team were still allowed to enter the national knockout despite having pulled out of their Tier 2 league.
Llandudno resigned from the Welsh Premier Women’s League in December 2019, but played a Welsh Cup tie against Abergavenny two months later.
On Thursday evening, Rhyl scooped a home tie against CPD Pwllheli, but later the Lilywhites confirmed the team remains folded and will not compete in the cup.
This means Pwllheli will receive a bye to the next round.
Rhyl said it was down to an FAW error that they were included in the second qualifying round draw.
The previous round draw featured a team called ‘Prestatyn Town’ but it emerged they did not exist. The club had entered a women’s team by mistake but despite the FAW saying they would be removed from the draw, they remained for several days afterwards.
This is how the revised northern draw will presumably look:
Berriew v Llanystumdwy
CPDM Bangor v Llanidloes Town
Denbigh Town/Northop Hall (playing Sunday) v NFA
Flint Town United v Kinmel Bay
Llandudno v Connah’s Quay Nomads
Llanfair United v Llangefni Town
Wrexham Foresters v CPDM Y Felinheli
Bye – CPD Pwllheli
