Marco Van Basten, Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale….just three football legends who specialised in acrobatic goals.
Now we can add Penrhyndeudraeth’s Reece Evans to the illustrious list.
Evans scored a truly stunning goal at Maes Meurig on Saturday which any of the aforementioned trio would have been proud to call their own.
Six minutes into the second half, with Penrhyn 5-0 up, Evans switched play by lofting the ball out to Ifan Jones on the left.
Jones crossed and Evans timed his run to perfection, volleying in a bicycle kick from the gods about 15 yards out..
It was the highlight of a ruthless performance from Penrhyndeudraeth which lifted them up to second in the table.
The scoring began in the 20th minute when Cedri Jones won the ball in midfield and sent a slide-rule pass through to Gwion Davies, whose shot ballooned up off keeper Kenny Hughes and soared into the net.
Two minutes later it was 2-0 courtesy of a magnificent goal, Cian Pritchard lashing an unstoppable 20-yard shot into the top left-hand corner.
A third goal arrived after 26 when Evans played a great pass in behind the Gwalchmai defence and Cai Henshaw finished clinically from an angle.
Pritchard, last season’s 33-goal hero, made it 11 for the current campaign with a double before the break.
His first was a close range finish after an Evans effort bounced out off keeper Jones.
The second was sublime, Pritchard forced out wide by the keeper but from the tightest of angles lobbing a beauty into the net.
The second half saw Penrhyn remain in command, Evans scoring his wonder goal before Hughes palmed a right-wing cross into the path of Cedri Jones, who netted number seven with a measured finish.
Three goals in the space of 11 second-half minutes from Aron Lewis-Davies (2) and Andy Clarke secured a win for unbeaten Division One leaders Aberffraw.
Josh Griffiths, Finn Cusick (2) and Elliot Wright shared the goals which won the day for Amlwch, Adrian Roberts (2, 1 pen) and Harry Jones replying for Rovers.
Jay Finter was a four-goal hero for ruthless Gaerwen.
Jordan Pritchard (2), Callum Thomas and sub Nathaniel Evans made up the rest of the away tally.
Cai Owen (2), Josh Williams, Elis Hughes and Aeron Williams split the goals which banked the points for visitors Rangers, captain Adam Taylor, Zack Haigh and Craig Moore responding for the Harbourmen.
Haigh was red-carded on the hour. Rangers led 4-1 at half time.
