Club chairman celebrates a dream come true for Prestatyn Sports FC

Some of the great people who have helped Prestatyn Sports develop including chairman John Hargreaves (fourth from left) and Sion Williams (second from right)

Prestatyn Sports FC chairman John Hargreaves has expressed his joy at news The Meadows will soon be home to a brand new clubhouse.
The North Wales Coast East League Division One club has secured £350,000 to develop the top class facility as its ground on the outskirts of Prestatyn.
Mr Hargreaves, former joint-manager of the club which won a famous quadruple in 2014-15 in just its second season and went on to compete in Tier 3, paid tribute to the many people who made the new development possible.
He said: “As club chairman, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the tremendous team of committee members we have at our disposal at the club. The work they have done behind the scenes is unprecedented and without their stubbornness and determination this would have never become a reality.
“So a massive thank you & congratulations to:
Barbara Smith
Sion Williams
Dave Cooke
Tom Brooks
Brian Nickson
Nicola Nickson
Sion Winters
“This is no time to relax though! 😅
😅
“Secondly all the managers and coaches for your dedication and trust in choosing the Sports as your club, Not only is this strength and honour but also strength in numbers!
“The club was formed back in 2013, with just a dream and empty field to go from, and without the crazy gang who formed this club and built such success on the field, putting Sports on the North Wales football map, again this club wouldn’t have been so attractive to represent:
Mark Hughes
Steve Roberts
Ben Newell

Dave Jutson

“People come and go from clubs. Some leave no impression. Others leave a footprint to build from and that’s exactly what these guys have done. Gents I salute you! And thank you for being the founding members of the Sports! Your names will always be etched in the DNA of the club,
“I’d like to thank the Cymru Football Federation (CFF) for trusting us and giving the club the recognition for our hard work over the last couple of years, big thanks to Allan James and Mark Hughes helping us get over the line,
“Special thanks to Mr Noel Mooney (FAW CEO) for his recent site visit, which gave us a chance to show case our vision for the future,
“Last but not least a huge thank you to our third party funding partners! Without your support and backing, this project would have never taken off, thank you Aled from the CVSV,
“Today we’ve hit a huge milestone! But this is just the beginning!

REALISATION OF A DREAM

Today, Prestatyn Sports can say the club’s dream has come true.
Ten years ago, it applied for planning permission to build a clubhouse at its home ground, The Meadows. At the time, they could not raise the money needed, so chose instead to invest everything it had into temporary containers and utilities to get the club off the ground.
Those cabins have served them well, but their lifespan has come to an end and put the club at risk of no longer meeting key criteria.
However, thanks to the Cymru Football Foundation, working in partnership with Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm, North Hoyle Wind Farm and Prestatyn Sports, a funding package worth £350,000 has been secured to finally build the clubhouse this club has always needed and deserved.

The new £350k facility will include:

  • Two modern changing rooms
  • Male and female referee changing rooms
  • A small community room with catering facilities, available for both the club and the wider community

Club driving force SION WILLIAMS said: “We believe these new, improved facilities will benefit all of our players in the years ahead and, importantly, help us attract and develop a women’s team and more junior sides.
“This has been the ambition of the club since it was formed in 2013, and it is now finally a reality. We have many people to thank.
Firstly, the original committee who had the foresight to apply for planning permission a decade ago. We hope you are as proud as we are today—you laid the foundations for this achievement. This one’s for you Dave Jutson.
“Secondly, our partners—the CFF, Gwynt y Môr, and North Hoyle—for believing in this project. Allan, Mark and Aled, your help and diligence over what has been a two-year process has been invaluable. Without your guidance, we would not have seen this through to completion.
“To our current committee: your work over the last two years has been nothing short of phenomenal. After rejection last year, we came back stronger with the very best bid we could make. Splitting into two sub-committees—Build and Community—you worked tirelessly to secure quotes, prepare applications, engage with partners and builders, conduct public questionnaires, and attend countless meetings.
“The dedication shown has been outstanding. Well done to John, Dave, Sion, Sion, Barbara, Tom Brian and Nicola—your tireless efforts have made this possible. Especially Barbara for securing partner funding with the windfarms – without this our CFF bid wouldn’t have happend.
“Most importantly, we thank our coaches, parents, and players. Your faith in this club has shown the FAW just how quickly we are growing. Using the Comet system, they can see that in just three years, our club has expanded from 74 registered players to 245 today—covering Vets, Men’s, Development, Under-16s, and all the way down to Under-5s. This remarkable growth has had a huge impact on the decision to invest in our club.
“Work on the £350,000 project will begin almost immediately, starting with the removal and relocation of our old cabins, followed by construction led by TG Williams. Throughout this process, TG Williams have provided us with data packs, drawings, progress checks, and ongoing advice. We owe them a massive thank you for their support in bringing us to this positive conclusion.
“This new clubhouse is more than just a building—it is the culmination of a ten-year dream, and the start of an exciting new chapter for Prestatyn Sports and our community.”
