Corrig McGonigle scored for the 10th successive game, his double helping 1876 coast into the Welsh Cup second round at Roe Plas Meadows.

McGonigle moved up to 13 goals for the season as the Citizens stretched their undefeated run to 12 matches – 11 wins and a draw – having netted a ridiculous 65 times already.

Saturday’s tie was an all-Tier 3 affair but 1876 were a different level, McGonigle on target after eight and 24 minutes, assists from Cai Powell-Roberts and Tom Clarke, with Nathan Jones conceding an own goal in between.

Josh Carey and Dylan Summers-Jones made it 5-0 at half time with further strikes on 29 and 45+1 minutes respectively.

Jack Smith notched the only goal of the second half on 77 minutes for City, who were backed by a superb travelling support in atrocious weather conditions.

CPD Pwllheli 1 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3

Having driven through constant heavy rain Rhyl had a nervy wait for referee Iolo Williams’ decision that the game would go ahead following a pre-match pitch inspection.

In a torrential downpur the home side had their first and best chance of the first half after five minutes when a shot from 30 yards was superbly tipped over by impressive Rhyl keeper Ollie Farebrother.

Rhyl opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a stunner. Skipper Ben Lightfoot received the ball from full-back Brady Coldwell on the left before blasting from well over 30 yards into the top right-hand corner.

As the away side continued to dominate there were multiple chances to extend their lead with Jack Parry and Ben Lightfoot both going close only for last ditch defending or brilliant saves from keeper Morgan Jones.

The second half continued like the first, Rhyl dominating possession and Pwllheli trying to hit the Lilywhites on the counter or threatening from some rare set pieces.

The next goal was going to be key as the conditions were getting worse by the minute and it was 1879 who scored it.

Paul Fleming received a ball from the industrious Parry on the left of the Pwllheli box and made no mistake by rifling across the keeper into the back of the net.

Many more chances continued to test Pwllheli keeper Jones from Rhyl’s Parry and Lightfoot, however it would need substitutions and fresh legs to put the game out of the Tier 3 hosts’ reach.

Rhyl’s number 11 and top scorer Archie Jones was on the pitch a handful of minutes before weaving through the home team’s box, threatening to shoot before side-footing into the corner of the goal,

Pwllheli hit back through Louis McFarlane but the visitors from Tier 2 merited the win.

Berriew 0 Trearddur Bay 3

Ryan Price delivered a double on 35 and 73 minutes after Tom Hilditch had struck first for Bay in this comfortable away victory.

Bow Street 4 Cefn Albion 2

Two late goals from subs Taylor Watts and Josh Crowl clinched a home success in this all-Ardal North East encounter.

Steff Davies and Harvey Matthews also netted for the hosts, Torne Samuels and sub Thomas Broadhurst replying for Albion.

Brickfield Rangers 3 NFA 1

Cymru North home side Brickfield recovered from a goal down to end NFA’s dreams of progression in this season’s Welsh Cup.

New signing Macauley Ross gave the Tier 3 underdogs a half-time lead, but Calum Huxley levelled on 50 minutes before late net-finders from Jay Richardson and Jardel Lima settled matters.

Caersws 6 Hawarden Rangers 1

Level at 1-1 come the break, Tier 4 Hawarden Rangers’ challenge faded away in the second half against Cymru North favourites Caersws.

Thomas Bridges equalised for the visitors on 34 minutes after Ashley Harries edged the Bluebirds ahead on 25.

Callum Francis-Jones bagged a second half hat-trick, with Tommy Rowlands and Callum Page (pen) also on the mark for ‘Sws.

Holyhead Hotspur 4 Forden United 0

Connor Owen (9) closes in on goal for Holyhead while Forden’s Sam Evans tries to stop him. Keeper Adam Clewlow prepares for the shot. Picture: IAN FRANCIS – massive thanks Ian, your photos were crystal clear compared to all others from Saturday’s weather nightmare!

Comfortable in the end for Cymru North side Hotspur against Tier 4 MMP Central Wales League North outfit Forden.

Ifan Emlyn Jones’ 10th minute goal from a Callum Graves assist was all that separated the teams at the interval, but a pair early in the second period from Jake Roberts put Holyhead in command, Jones and Connor Owen assisting.

Shay Murphy hit a fourth in added time.

CPD Llannefydd 5 CPD Llanberis 1

Five-goal Llannefydd advanced to the next stage, David Lawson-Cooke, Morgan Jones, Dafydd Roberts, Morgan Owen and fellow sub William Whelan all making the scoresheet before Dion Owen notched a consolation for the Darans.

Penrhyncoch 2 Sychdyn United 0

Tier 5 underdogs Sychdyn put up a great battle before their Welsh Cup journey came to an end at Cymru North Penrhyncoch.

Daniel Owen broke the deadlock with a 35th minute penalty and the tie was far from over until Ifan Burrell pocketed a second for the Roosters on 90.

Sychdyn had Jordan Walker sent off for a second yellow four minutes into added time and manager Jordan Ashley suffered the same fate after the full-time whistle.

Porthmadog A Denbigh Town A (abandoned second half due to waterlogged pitch with Denbigh 4-1 ahead)

Rotten luck for Denbigh after they had built up a 4-1 lead at Porthmadog only for the heavy rain to cause an abandonment at Y Traeth with 55 on the clock.

Matthew Worrall (2), Sam Duffy and Gwion Dafydd put Town four-up before Shaun Cavanagh replied on 51. The tie will be replayed on Wednesday, September 24.

Rhostyllen 5 Nefyn United 2

Tom Douglas (2), Kurt Isaac, Adam Williams and Martyn Elms shared the goals for Rhostyllen, Rhys Williams with both for Nefyn, who scored first.

Saltney Town 3 Gresford Athletic 7

Goals galore at the Dragon Steel Stadium, but it was Tier 2 which triumphed over Tier 4 in the end.

Gresford led 4-0 at half time, Jake Roberts (2), James Smith and Iwan Roberts on the mark for the visitors.

Jordan Hensel pulled one back for the Bordermen early in the second stanza, but a Riley Hayden own goal made it 5-1.

Dominic Deacon and Haci Ozlu added further strikes for the Cymru North side, sub Carl Pleavin replying twice late on for Saltney.
