Young keeper shines in Trearddur Bay defeat at Llanystumdwy

NORTH WALES COAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE – SEPTEMBER 7
CPDM Llanystumdwy 3
Trearddur Bay 1
Report: Trearddur Bay
Sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Brooke Northcote produced a fine performance for Trearddur Bay in Sunday’s loss at Llanystumdwy.
Both teams shaped up well with good passages of play between them.
Bay took time to settle with several new signings on board, but once they found their feet they competed well.
Llanystumdwy led 1-0 at half time through an Angharad Perry goal, but the margin would have been wider only for some good stops from young Northcote, who impressed with the way she dealt with a wet, slippery ball.
In the second half Trearddur played better football with some good passing from defence to attack but couldn’t find the right opening.
Llanystumdwy then scored in the 49th minute through Kate Davies from a corner after some confusion in the Bay defence.
Llan threatened from another corner but after a goal-line block from Freya Davies the ball was cleared away.
In the 69th minute the hosts earned a penalty which Annest Roberts converted for 3-0.
Keeper Northcote again made some brave saves diving down at the attackers’ feet.
Then in the 80th minute, Bay broke down the right and after a cross from Stephanie Davies-Lee, who played well in the middle of the park holding and spreading the ball, Georgie Wasnidge had a shot that rebounded off a defender for Katie Bolton to slot into the back of the net with a right foot shot.
Bay continued to press for more but the game ended 3-1 to Llanystumdwy.
