North Wales Coast Development League: New side Hotspur kick-off with 8-0 win

NORTH WALES COAST DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE – REPORTS SUNDAY, AUGUST 24
West Division
Holyhead Hotspur Development 8 (Astles 3, Buckley 2, Driedyk, Gregg, Woodruff)
CPD Pwllheli – Tim Datblygu 0

New team Holyhead Hotspur Development made the perfect start with an eight-goal victory.
Here’s a personal account of the game from coach Scott Hakesley:
Today we started a new challenge as a brand new team versus one of last year’s in form teams. We named ten 17 year olds in our match day squad, showing faith in our junior set up.
After a good warm up and conversations had, it was finally time to kick off our season on a nice hot day. With a good crowd watching we had a minute’s silence for Mike Davies, someone everybody looked up to and captain Dan Doyle organised some funds to add to the charity.
Kick off and new signing Casey Gregg found himself free on the edge of the box to slot home and calm some nerves.

MoTM Kane Astles grabbed his first moments later, then Luke Jones slotted Kane through for his second and bringing a close to the first half, we felt in control.
Half time and allowing the lads to reduce temperatures and take on fluids, we discussed some tactics and asked them to go and win the second half 1-0 – but they had different ideas.
From the kick off Cameron Buckley found the net for his first Holyhead Hotspur goal, which seemed to start a flow of second half net-finders, Steve Driedyk scoring the fifth.
Buckley grabbed a second after some good work down the right from Gregg.
Astles completed a hat-trick, followed by Ryan Woodruff’s pinpoint free kick to round off a perfect first day.

We’ve only been together 8 weeks and from the coaching team extremely happy with how the lads have conducted themselves in our short time together. We would like to thank CPD Pwllheli FC for travelling down today and wish you the best moving forward. We now face a tough test away to last season’s champions Trearddur Bay (DEVELOPMENT) on Thursday evening 28th August 18.30 kick off.
