Happy birthday to flying winger Ruby Hastings

One of the most exciting wingers in North Wales women’s football celebrates her 19th birthday today.

Ruby Hastings is about to begin her third season as a Flint Town United ladies player.

Renowned for her pace, deliveries into the penalty box and ability to score goals, Ruby has become an important member of the Flint family since making her debut at the start of 2023-24.

She has made 36 league and cup appearances for the Silkwomen so far, netting 14 goals.

Ruby never has to look too far for guidance with her football as dad Lee is one of the Flint coaches.

Before joining the Essity Stadium club, Ruby had played for Northop Hall Girls since she was eight, latterly representing the under-17 side before moving into senior football.

She also turned out for Flintshire Schoolgirls and North East Wales in her younger days.

Ruby made her debut for Flint in a 3-0 victory over Kinmel Bay on September 3, 2023.

Her first club goal arrived in her second outing during a 6-3 win at Denbigh Town.

Ruby’s first season saw her emerge as a vital part of the Flint side which won the North East Wales Women’s League East Division title with a perfect record of 12 straight wins.

She netted seven goals in that campaign including one in the North Wales Play-Off Final against Pwllheli, where the Silkwomen came back from two-down to force extra time only to lose 3-2 following a 120-minute thriller. That was the only game Flint and Ruby lost all season.

Last season saw promoted Flint compete in Tier 2 Genero Adran North in just their third season since formation.

Early in the campaign, Ruby netted two cracking goals in a 3-1 win at Rhyl 1879 in the Genero Adran Trophy and scored with a fantastic finish in a 6-1 loss at champions Llandudno.

In all, she equalled her goals tally of 2023-24 last season – seven – as Flint finished a comfortable fifth out of eight in their first Tier 2 adventure.

Ruby is a player who never stops running or putting herself about on the pitch, yet through it all, as her team-mates commented last season, she always manages to look elegant in her action photos!! 😄

Happy birthday Ruby. Hope your third season at Flint goes as well as your first two.
