On the ground where they last lost a league game 10 months ago Kinmel Bay well and truly wiped out that memory with a stunning 10-0 victory on the same pitch.
Last October, Bay were beaten 5-2 at Cerrigydrudion in the North Wales Coast East League Premier Division.
Returning to Cerrig on Saturday, the Morfa side had not lost in 22 league matches – and they made it 23 without defeat in some style.
Substitute Ben Cawley led the way with a 15-minute hat-trick in the latter stages, Sean Sheridan and Connor Morris netted two apiece, while there was one each for Josh Parry, Matthew Rees and replacement Jacob Jones.
Morris is now on 99 goals in 95 appearances for the club he joined at the start of 2022-23.
With impressive wins in the Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy against Chirk AAA and Corwen respectively already behind them, Bay kicked off their league campaign in ruthless fashion.
There was a sense of determination in the Kinmel camp after last year’s loss at Cerrig – their only league defeat of the entire campaign.
From the off, relentless high pressing in the final third did not allow the home side a moment to settle.
The breakthrough came just three minutes in. Josh Parry whipped in a pinpoint cross from the right corner and Morris rose highest to nod home.
Barely three minutes later, Parry’s delivery from the left enabled an unmarked Sheridan to calmly slot past the onrushing keeper.
Moments after, Ryan Roberts unleashed a 30-yard strike that rattled the post, Sheridan quickest to react to tap home the rebound.
Things went from bad to worse for Cerrig when on 42 minutes they were reduced to 10 men after Delwyn Jones picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.
Right on the stroke of half-time, Bay keeper James Roberts launched a towering kick upfield that caught his opposite number in no-man’s land. Rees chased it down, flicking the ball over the backpedalling keeper and into the net.
The second half picked up exactly where the first left off. In the 48th minute, Charlie Jones crossed from the right to the back post where Parry arrived to fire home.
On the hour, Ryan Roberts won the ball high up the pitch and fed Sheridan, whose cross from the right was headed into the far corner by Morris.
In the 68th minute, Bay made five substitutions: Jacob Jones, Tate Walker, Jared Hughes, Dom Holland and Cawley coming on.
Soon a flowing move from keeper Roberts involving Liam Jones, Mackenzie Slaven and Ciaran Brady ended with Holland sliding a defence-splitting pass to Jacob Jones.
With the keeper rushing out, Jones unselfishly squared to Cawley, who unleashed a thunderous strike into the roof of the net.
Straight from the restart, Roberts stole the ball in midfield, spread it wide to Jared Hughes, who cut inside, lofted over to Jacob Jones, and he controlled superbly before firing low into the bottom corner.
Five minutes from time, a corner from Jacob Jones was cleared only to the edge of the box, where Rees picked it up.
Instead of shooting, he scooped a delightful ball over the defence for Cawley to smash home from close range.
Cawley completed his 15-minute hat-trick with a rocket into the far corner after a perfectly weighted through ball from Walker.
Although Rhos put up a battling show on their Premier debut, it was Junction who took the points.
Jack Williams scored on 10 and 74 minutes for the Railwaymen, with Tyler Oakley-Evans replying for promoted Rhos.
Jacob Guy’s 86th minute finish clinched the points for Tier 4 newcomers Conwy in their first match under a new name.
An own goal from home keeper Felix Domagala on 24 minutes handed Y Glannau the lead, but Jake Carey levelled for the hosts on the half-hour.
It looked like a draw might be the end result until Guy struck kate.
After back-to-back cup defeats Glan Conwy earned their first win of the season.
Dion Lloyd put them ahead on 27 minutes before 16-year-old Franky Gughrill netted after 43 and 52 to seal the points.
Captain Finlay Jones delivered a 76th minute decider for Mochdre from a Josh Grimshaw assist.
Jones had a couple of near misses earlier in the second half before timing his run to perfection then heading in Grimshaw’s pinpoint delivery.
It was the second game in a row where the skipper had provided a second-half winner.
