Talysarn Celts’ 21-1 victory in their opening league game of the season on Saturday was certainly an eye-opener – but is it a club record?
It definitely appears that way, but Grassroots North Wales can confirm that back in 2002-03, the village side whipped Tregarth 20-0 in a Caernarfon and District League fixture.
Saturday’s 21-1 success for Wayne Jones’ side over Glantraeth is certainly a very early contender for the highest winning margin in North Wales senior football for 2025-26!
Substitute Aled Jones bagged a remarkable five goals after coming on in the second half, while fellow replacement Glyn Hughes-Thomas struck four times.
There were hat-tricks for Gethin Jones, Garem Jones and Luke Baum, plus singles from Guto Hughes, Osian Williams and sub Jack Usher.
Christian Broster replied for Glantraeth in the first half when the Anglesey side were 6-0 down.
In fairness to Glan, they have had a difficult summer, losing most of their 2024-25 squad and having to build a new one.
They also appointed experienced Mel McGinness as manager in June, but he stepped down a month later and a fresh management team of Jason Scott and Robbie Jones has had to be bedded in.
Believed to be the biggest win ever in North Wales football.
Goalscorers for the home side that day were David Roberts (9), Bob Brodie (7), Willie John Williams (6), John Rowlands (4), Tex Humphreys (4), Robin Thomas (2), Brian Fisher (2), Phil Hadley, an own goal and a penalty from goalkeeper David Evans.
Caernarfon and District League champions Barmouth were at their ruthless best against short-lived bottom club Tregarth.
Huge credit to Tregarth, they completed all 26 fixtures that season, getting one draw and suffering 25 losses, scoring 18 goals and conceding 262 – but they had a go. Full respect to them.
Connah’s Quay Town were on their way to much bigger things when they dished out a 25-0 pasting to new and developing side Skippy in a cup tie in January 2024.
Lee Jones scored six and Lewis Hodson, later to sign for CPD Y Rhyl 1879, hit four for the Deesiders at Bronwens Green. This might be the biggest away win in North Wales history?
En route to the league title in their debut season, Broughton hit 22 without reply against the much-loved Bellevue.
Lewis Hopwood scored seven, Elliott Evans added six and Oliver Marple struck four, while Harrison Robson provided five assists.
