Great news for Gwalchmai – Logs remains
In a summer where they have lost numerous key players to other clubs, Gwalchmai revealed the good news that one of their greatest ever is remaining at Maes Meurig this season.
Prolific striker Marc Evans, 35, has committed to Gwalch for a third campaign.
Evans returned to his home village club in October 2023 and netted 11 times in black and white stripes during 2023-24, including in the NWCFA Intermediate Cup Final, in which Gwalch beat Penrhyndeudraeth 3-1.
The player affectionately known as ‘Logs’ scored 21 times last season for a Gwalchmai side which finished runners-up in the tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division.
This pre-season saw a large number of players depart from Maes Meurig, including four top class goalscorers and many from other positions.
They have brought in some good names, too, but the retention of Marc Evans is a major boost for his manager Craig Evans (no relation).
Marc Evans is believed to have scored well over 400 goals in a career which earned him Cymru Alliance League titles with Llangefni Town, Rhyl FC and Llandudno, as well as lower league championships at Glantraeth and Bodedern Athletic.
Logs also enjoyed a record-breaking goalscoring campaign in New Zealand for semi-professional side Melville United.
He has played at all levels of the Welsh football pyramid, including a spell at Porthmadog in the Cymru Premier in 2009/10.
Gwalch have also added experienced goal-getters Alan ‘Blacks’ Owen and Darren Lewthwaite to their ranks this summer.
Lewthwaite notched a hat-trick on debut in last weekend’s FAW Amateur Trophy 5-4 defeat at Amlwch Town.
