FAW Amateur Trophy – seven scintillating ties to watch out for on Saturday

SEVEN TO WATCH – DRAGON SIGNS AMATEUR TROPHY FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND

There are some cracking ties in store in the first qualifying round of the FAW Amateur Trophy on Saturday.

The national competition is for clubs competing in tiers 3 to 5.

Here are seven standout ties to warch out for.

Broughton United v Meliden

It’s an all-tier 4 battle as North Easl Wales League Division 1 newcomers Broughton host North Wales Coast East Premier side Meliden.
Broughton got off to a flyer last weekend in the Welsh Cup, dishing out a 5-1 walloping to experienced T4 outfit Penrhyndeudraeth, while the Miners were unfortunate to lose out on penalties at Welshpool.

Coedpoeth United v CPD Boded

North East Wales League Division 1 team Coedpoeth beat T5 Deiniolen 6-3 in the Welsh Cup last weekend, Adam Lloyd scoring four times.
CPD Boded missed out on the Welsh Cup after a glitch in the registration system forced them out, so they will be determined to make the most of their Trophy campaign.

Glan Conwy v Llandudno Junction

Good local derby on the agenda between area rivals from the North Wales Coast East Premier Division.
Both exited the Welsh Cup last Saturday – Glan Conwy well beaten at home by Y Glannau, while Junction lost on penalties to Nantlle Vale.

Kinmel Bay v Corwen

Clash of the Giants as one of tier 4’s best sides Kinmel Bay welcome strong tier 3 outfit Corwen to Y Morfa.
Both had fine away wins in the Welsh Cup last weekend – Bay triumphed on penalties at Chirk AAA, while Corwen earned a great 3-1 result at Prestatyn Town.

Penycae v Prestatyn Town

Ardal North East side Penycae have started the season on fire, winning 7-1 at Kerry in the Welsh Cup and 4-1 at Llanfair in Tuesday’s league opener.
Prestatyn bounced back from their Welsh Cup loss to Corwen by defeating tier 3 newcomers Mynydd Isa 3-1 in midweek.

Porthmadog v CPD Nefyn United

What a corker in store as tier 3 giants Porthmadog – 7-1 winners over Penmaenmawr during the week – welcome Nefyn, one of T4’s best teams who saw off Mynydd Isa 3-2 in the Welsh Cup last weekend.
This is a real chance for Nefyn to show they have potential to get into T3 next season, while Port will aim to make it three wins in a row to start the campaign.

CPD Y Felinheli v Lex XI

After a superb win on penalties versus Builth Wells in the Welsh Cup, Lex came a cropper in midweek with a 5-1 league loss at Cefn Albion.
Can they overcome a Felinheli outfit beaten 4-1 at Trearddur Bay in the Ardal North West League on Wednesday and 4-2 losers to Bethesda Athletic in the Welsh Cup?
Felin are no mugs and are capable of better results.
