Players often get praised for their performances, but it seems referees can be less appreciated when it comes to compliments and recognition.

However, match officials operating in the North Wales Coast East League are in general an excellent bunch who are often commended for their efforts by clubs.

One such example is Rhyl’s Aaron Dodwell, who made the transition from player to referee last season and consistently earned high marks for his displays.

This was truly recognised when Aaron won the Referee of the Year award at the North Wales Coast East League’s AGM.

And what a season it was for Prestatyn Sports striker Michael (Smurf) Jones!

Michael picked up a double award – Division One Player of the Year and top goalscorer for his 33 goals, which made him leading marksman for the whole league.

Awards given out at the event were:

Premier Division top goalscorer

Tom Watkin-Jones (Cerrigydrudion) 28 goals

Division One top goalscorer

Michael Jones (Prestatyn Sports) 33 goals
