If ever finishing fifth did not tell the true story this was it.

Ynys Môn women completed back-to-back crushing wins at the Orkney Island Games with a 4-1 thrashing of Jersey in Thursday’s fifth-sixth place play-off at Stromness Academy.

Despite hammering Hitra 6-1 on Tuesday, Môn had missed out on a semi-final spot after losing 4-2 to Group C winners Western Isles on Monday.

Môn had been unlucky to concede four first-half wind-assisted goals in that game.

Dan Gregg’s side were ruthless from the first whistle on Thursday, taking a 12th minute lead when Casi Evans converted a penalty after Hannah Owen was fouled by Alena Clyde-Smith, who received a red card.

Jersey sat in a deep block from that moment on, and Casi Evans in the number 6 position orchestrated things, moving the ball side-to-side.

New Cheltenham Town signing Evans made it 2-0 on 18 minutes with a cracking long-range goal.

And the Wales under-19 international added her third with another super effort after 32.

Menna Evans added a fourth with her third goal of the tournament, finishing from close range via a dangerous Ellie Jones corner.

That made it 10 first half goals out of 12 scored overall by the Anglesey ladies.

Jersey pulled one back through Ella Brennand just past the hour, but Môn remained in command.

Winning manager Gregg said: “Just one half a football cost us a medal I think, the team at least deserved a bronze.

“Performances have been dominating though. In Guernsey (2023) we sort of got by on heart but here it’s been the football performance as well. Average age of the squad 23 so plenty to improve on.”
