Rhyl 1879 say farewell to four of last season’s title-winning squad

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 have announced four departures from their 2024-25 title-winning squad this evening.

Wing-back Chris Bennett, forward Jonny Bravo Pinto, goalkeeper Adam Reid and midfielder Jordan Worthington all played a part in the Lilywhites being crowned champions of Ardal North West.

Experienced stopper Reid, 31, played in 27 matches for 1879 last season, keeping a very impressive 12 clean sheets.

Bennett, 32, rejoined Rhyl in December 2024 and made 16 appearances, mainly from the bench. He was a key player in the team’s impressive end-of-season turnaround after a blip threatened to cost them the title.

Formerly with Denbigh Town and Prestatyn Town, Bennett played in 1879’s first-ever game at the start of 2021-22, scoring in a 10-0 Welsh Cup victory over Rhyl Dragons. He scored in four of his first six games for the club.

Bennett featured in 78 matches for Rhyl before rejoining Prestatyn Town at the start of 2024-25. He made just six Cymru North appearances for the Seasiders before returning to 1879.

In a total of 94 outings for the Lilywhites, he scored 10 goals.

Fan favourite Bravo Pinto, 21, signed for 1879 at the beginning of 2024-25 and netted 10 times in 34 appearances. Like Bennett, the Portuguese was exceptional during the run-in which saw the Lilywhites clinch the title.

Worthington, 26, joined Rhyl 1879 from Kinmel Bay in October 2021, scoring three goals in his first two games.

Often unlucky with injuries during his time at Belle Vue, in all he made 59 appearances in an 1879 shirt, netting 12 times.

CD Y Rhyl 1879 said in a statement: “All four lads have made a huge impact at our club, we wish you all the very best in the next step of your football journey.”
