Complete revamp for North East Wales Football League
The North East Wales Football League is undergoing a complete revamp for 2025-26 with the introduction of a three-division system.
The senior league will include Division 1 (Tier 4), 2 (Tier 5) and 3 (Tier 6).
Last season the league comprised a Premier Division (Tier 4) and Championship Division (Tier 5).
The reason for the creation of a third division is chiefly to benefit the developing clubs who may have suffered a number of heavy defeats in the former format.
With there being a disparity in standard between clubs at the lower end of last season’s Tier 5 table compared with the rest of the division, it was felt that those teams don’t get much value from losing heavily and similarly neither do the teams beating them by double figures.
The smaller divisions should make it easier for new clubs to enter the pyramid and sustain their teams.
The new-look Reserve League will involve two divisions – Division 1 and 2 – while there is also a Veterans League composed of Division 1 and two lower regional divisions.
Division 1 of the senior league welcomes Chirk AAA, relegated from tier 3 last season, Broughton United, promoted as 2024-25 Championship Division winners, and Rhydymwyn, who also rise up from the last term’s Championship.
Division 3 brings a welcome return to the league for CPD Caerwys after a short break.
