Rhyl 1879 could bring in seven more players – but departures are inevitable, says manager

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 manager Paul Moore may look to bring in another seven players before settling on his squad for the 2025-26 season.

Moore wants a 24-strong pool of players to tackle tier 2 Cymru North for the first time, but the boss admits some of last season’s Ardal North West title-winning group may have to leave the club.

The Lilywhites have already added five new players – Jack Parry, Ben Lightfoot , Rocco Hewitt, Morgan Murray and Kieran Baker.

Five more have signed and will soon be unveiled, and Moore is negotiating with two other potential recruits.

A centre-half with T2 experience, plus an exciting young midfielder and attacking eight-sided specialist from the English pyramid are due to be announced.

As for ambition, there is no limit for that from Moore, who is about to start his first full season in charge of 1879, having first taken over in November 2024.

“There are three places up for grabs to be promoted to the Cymru Premier and we want one of them,” said the former Hednesford Town and Warrington Town chief, who had a short spell in charge of Colwyn Bay in 2016.

“We’ve got about 30 players at present and we’re looking at a squad of 24, so unfortunately it might mean losing a couple, while others will have to decide whether they want to stay and fight for their place.

“Some of our players have experience of tier 2, while others don’t have any, so it’s going to be a challenge, but one I feel we will be up to.”

Rhyl are due to take on Gresford Athletic away tonight (Tuesday) at Ysgol y Grango, Rhosllanerchrugog, near Wrexham, in their opening friendly, 7.15 pm kick-off.

ADMISSION PRICES 2025-26

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 announced the following on their website:

As we prepare for an exciting new season at CPD Y Rhyl 1879 following last season as champions in winning the Ardal North West league, we would like to inform all supporters of changes to our home game admission prices.

After much consideration and analysis of last season’s Cymru North team admission fees (which ranged between £8 and £10), we have adjusted our pricing structure to reflect the level of football we are competing in whilst ensuring the sustainability of our club.

New Admission Prices for the 2025/26 Season:

– Adults: £8

– Under 16s: £2

– Concessions: £6 (introducing a new category for senior citizens over 65, students and disabled supporters)

We understand that any price increase can be challenging, and this decision was not made lightly. These changes allow us to remain competitive both on and off the pitch while continuing to improve the match-day experience for all our fans.

Important Update on Season Tickets

We would also like to inform you that, after a thorough review, we will not be offering season tickets for the upcoming season.

This decision comes after a very poor uptake over the past two years despite an increase in attendance and despite our best efforts to promote them.

We apologise to those who had hoped to purchase season tickets this year and appreciate your understanding as we focus on ensuring fair and accessible admission options for all.
