CPD Y Rhyl 1879 are seeking a new manager after parting company with Paul Moore today.
Moore’s final game in charge was last night’s 1-1 draw at Ruthin Town, a result which left the Lilywhites without a win in five league starts.
The Hops and Barley Community Stadium club are currently 10th in the Cymru North with just two wins in 10 outings.
Moore took over in November 2024 and led Rhyl to the Tier 3 Ardal North West title at the first attempt.
Last season was the phoenix club’s first in the T2 Cymru North and they finished a very creditable fifth, also reaching the Welsh Cup semi-finals where they lost 2-1 to competition winners Caernarfon Town.
Moore’s 1879 reign began with a 2-0 home win over Connah’s Quay Town on November 9, 2024, and the team went on a 15-match unbeaten run in the league – 13 of them victories.
Despite a couple of late season slip-ups, Rhyl won their last three games to finish up champions by 10 points.
The Lilywhites’ debut campaign in Cymru North was an up-and-down affair at times, but they did celebrate memorable home wins over champions Llandudno and promoted Holywell Town.
After numerous squad departures and arrivals over the summer, 1879 never quite settled this season and recent results had caused unrest among supporters.
Moore was in charge of Rhyl for 72 league and cup games, winning 39, drawing 11 and losing 22 – a win ratio of 54.17.
Rhyl 1879 released the following statement:
“The club would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Paul for his tireless dedication over the last 2 years and the significant successes he brought to CPD Y Rhyl 1879 since taking over in November 2024. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the men’s team through important milestones, including seeing us crowned Ardal league winners turning around a seven point deficit and then winning the league by ten points, as well as a memorable Welsh cup run narrowly losing out to eventual winners Caernarfon in the semi-final. Paul’s efforts and his positivity both on and off the pitch, will be fondly remembered and deeply appreciated by everyone connected to the club.
“While recent results have not met our expectations this season everyone at the club remains committed to our ambitions on and off the pitch and we believe that now is the right time to make a managerial change. This decision was not made lightly and is aligned with the club’s long-term goal of reaching the top tier of Welsh football.
“We as a club are incredibly grateful for everything Paul has done during his tenure, and we wish him nothing but success in his future endeavours. He will always be a valued part of the CPD Y Rhyl 1879 family.
“We will begin the process to recruit a new manager immediately, please follow our social channels for all the latest updates and all enquiries should come through Adam Roche via managingdirector@cpdyrhyl1879.co.uk“
