Major changes underway at Flint Mountain Football Club

Flint Mountain FC, of the JD Cymru North, is undergoing a dramatic transformation with four new investors set to come on board — including highly talked-about Merseyside businessman Stephen Vaughan Jr.

As part of the club’s restructuring, Flint Mountain will no longer share the Essity Stadium with Flint Town United. After three seasons at the ground, their landlords have opted to end the arrangement, citing concerns over Mountain’s new direction and how it might impact the Cymru Premier outfit.

Flint Mountain has accepted the decision and expects to confirm an alternative Cymru North venue for next season by this weekend.

A further big development is the imminent appointment of a high-profile manager with Football League credentials, who is expected to attract a wave of strong signings. The identity of the new boss will be revealed soon.

The club has seen impressive growth in recent years — winning the Ardal North West title in just their second campaign at that level in 2023–24, followed by a solid seventh-place finish in the Cymru North last season.

However, change is clearly in the air. Managers Aden Shannon and Jonny Hill recently stepped down, and several key players have either departed or are expected to leave.

Jack Sconce has moved to Holywell Town, while Jack Parry and Rocco Hewitt are believed to be on their way to a rival Cymru North side. Prolific striker Michael Hayes has reportedly received an attractive offer to play in the English system.

Despite the turnover, 17 players from last season remain and several new signings are in the pipeline.

Stephen Vaughan Jr brings with him a colourful and complex sporting background. A UEFA-qualified coach and former licensed boxing promoter, he has held leadership and coaching roles across Maltese football – including with Floriana FC, Mosta FC, and most recently as president of St George’s FC from August 2023 to June 2025.

His playing career spanned 2003–2010, most notably with Chester City (a club once owned by his father, Stephen Sr), as well as spells with Rochdale, Boston United, Droylsden, and Northwich Victoria. Vaughan retired at 25 due to a serious Achilles injury.

On the departure of Shannon and Hill, a club spokesman stated: “We’re incredibly thankful to Aden and Jonny for everything they’ve achieved over the last three seasons. They’ve done a fantastic job. But as ever in football, things evolve — and now it’s time for a new chapter with fresh leadership and new talent.”
