Flint Mountain Football Club have announced the appointment of Jamie Welsh as the club’s new General Manager and Director of Football.
With Mountain playing their home games at Prestatyn Town’s Bastion Gardens this season, it will mean a return to familiar territory for Merseyside-based Welsh.
The new Mountain chief was owner and chairman of Prestatyn Town from 2020 before the current man at the helm, James Benbow, took over in January 2024.
There was talk of a former Football League manager taking on the Flint Mountain job, but that appears to have been shelved for now at least.
Known as Jay, Welsh will assume full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the football club, supporting both the football and operational sides of the tier 2 JD Cymru North outfit.
A Mountain spokesman said: “We look forward to working with Jay in this new chapter and have every faith that he can guide us through what has been a tough and transitional summer for the club, it’s committee, players, volunteers, and our fans.”
Former manager Aden Shannon, who led the club to the tier 3 Ardal North West League title in 2023-24 and through a promising first season in the Cymru North, stepped down in June, along with assistant Jonny Hill.
Several of last season’s squad soon followed Shannon out of the door.
Mountain announced last month four new investors were coming on board, including well-known Merseyside businessman and former footballer Stephen Vaughan Jr.
As part of the club’s restructuring, it emerged Flint Mountain would no longer share the Essity Stadium with Flint Town United. After three seasons at the ground, their landlords opted to end the arrangement, citing concerns over Mountain’s new direction and how it might impact the Cymru Premier outfit.
An agreement was soon reached for Mountain to groundshare with Prestatyn Town for the 2025-26 season.
