Stephen Vaughan Jr: “I have no involvement in Flint Mountain Football Club”

Merseyside sports promoter Stephen Vaughan Jr insists he has no involvement with Flint Mountain Football Club.

Mountain recently announced Mr Vaughan was part of discussions over the Cymru North club’s future direction.

Yesterday, the Flintshire outfit unveiled Jay Welsh, also from Merseyside and former owner of Prestatyn Town, as Mountain’s new general manager, tasked with the day-to-day running of the club.

Mr Vaughan is dealing with the personal heartbreak of the recent passing of his father and business partner Stephen Snr, long-time head of the Vaughan Group.

Stephen Snr, 62, was a well-known figure in boxing promotions and British and Maltese football circles.

Over the years, he held high-profile roles as majority stakeholder at Chester City, Barrow AFC and rugby league side Widnes Vikings.

In 2016, father and son were linked to a buy-out at Bangor City, and Stephen Jr was manager until 2019.

For the past two years, Stephen Jr has been president of St George’s FC in Malta.

Stephen Jr told Grassroots North Wales: “I’m not involved at all with Flint Mountain. I’ve only just finished two years with St George’s and don’t feel ready for any more commitment at present.

“I wish Flint Mountain all the best, I know Jay Welsh well, but personally I’m not involved.

“We’ve got a couple of big boxing shows coming up and for the time being boxing and combat sports will have the full concentration.

My dad ran that side of things, but it’s down to me now and while it’s a very difficult time, we’ve got to keep going.”
