Viva Les Davies – the Bangor City years

Cymru Premier all-time great Les Davies called time on his football career at the weekend.
Les’s prime years were probably between 2007-15, when he won three Welsh Cups, the Welsh Premier title and made numerous European appearances for Bangor City under Neville Powell.
He’s a look back at “The Truck’s” City years in timeline form.

LES DAVIES – THE BANGOR CITY YEARS
December 2, 2003: First Bangor City goal in an 8-1 Premier Cup thrashing of Caersws.
Dec 5, 2003: Davies nets first Welsh Premier goal for all-Blues at Connah’s Quay.
Dec 2003: Scores in five successive games for City.
Dec 20, 2003: First two-goal haul for Citizens versus Afan Lido.
Leaves Bangor at end of 2004-05 and spends two seasons at Porthmadog
May 2007: Neville Powell becomes Bangor City manager and brings Davies back to Farrar Road.
Oct 23, 2007: First and only hat-trick for Bangor in 4-0 League Cup win over Connah’s Quay.
May 4, 2008: Wins first Welsh Cup with Bangor City – 4-2 extra time victory over Llanelli.
July 17, 2008: Davies notches his only goal for City in Europe at home to Midtjylland of Denmark.
May 4, 2009: Scores in 2-0 Welsh Cup Final win over Aberystwyth.
May 1, 2010: Appears as late substitute as City win third Welsh Cup in a row, beating Port Talbot Town 3-2 at Parc-y-Scarlets.
April 30, 2011: Davies wins Welsh Premier League title with Bangor City, beating The New Saints 1-0 at a highly-charged Farrar Road to clinch the crown.
Dec 9, 2011: Davies hits 50th WPL goal for Bangor in 2-1 home win against Bala.
Dec 27, 2011: Finds the net for City in the club’s last game at Farrar Road – a 5-3 win over Prestatyn.
Jan 24, 2012: Davies on target in Bangor’s first-ever match at Nantporth – a 6-1 victory over Caernarfon Wanderers in NWCFA Challenge Cup.
Feb 4, 2012: Scores in City’s first-ever league game at Nantporth – a 2-1 win against Prestatyn. Davies became the only player to score in Bangor’s last match at Farrar Road, plus their first cup and league games at the new stadium at Nantporth.
July 2012: Les was named in the elite 32-man list for the Best Player in Europe award, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The list was drawn up by one selected journalist from each Uefa member country voting for five players who they had been most impressed with in the 2011-12 season.
A single nomination was enough to earn Davies’ place.
Nov 1, 2013: Davies grabs 100th goal in all competitions for City in 4-1 home triumph over Connah’s Quay.
Sep 14, 2014: Goal number 100 in the WPL (83rd for Bangor) for Davies in 3-2 defeat at Rhyl.
Apr 19, 2015: Scored final Welsh Premier goal for Bangor City in 3-1 win at Prestatyn Town.
Aug 9, 2015: Les leaves Bangor City and joins Connah’s Quay Nomads for an undisclosed fee.
May 23, 2018: Davies rejoins Bangor City, now a Huws Gray Cymru Alliance League club under management of Craig Harrison, who makes The Truck his first signing.
Aug 11, 2018: Nets a double on City return in a 5-1 win over Buckley Town
Oct 20, 2018: Final goals in a Bangor City shirt. Scored twice in 4-2 Welsh Cup success against Mold Alexandra.
Jan 3, 2019: Davies returns to the Welsh Premier League after signing for Llandudno
